New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 29

Like any journey, the Christian journey has its challenges. Getting baptized and entering a community of believers does not mean all problems will go away. All of us are still susceptible to illness, depression, anger—the list goes on and on. When we are going through these experiences and searching for God, it can be hard to sense God’s presence. This psalm … lets us know the voice of God can be heard and felt, and it reassures us that God is near.

—F. Douglas Powe Jr., in The Upper Room Disciplines 2023: A Book of Daily Devotions (Upper Room Books, 2022)

It was good to read this Psalm – “the voice of the LORD”. Yes, He is present, He is near. I need to step away from my thoughts about my circumstances and re-focus on Him, His Presence, His Peace. I found myself very aware of needing to change my perspective this week. I was discouraged by (lack of) results from my MRI – as far as charting a path to recovery. And, yet, there still remains much to be grateful for. What was I going to choose to focus on? Thank You, Father – for growing me to the point of recognizing my faltering thoughts.
This morning I brought Him, I bring Him the various things on my heart…confessing I am not in control of much of them…and again ceding that to Him.
Dad fell this week. While out walking, he slipped in some mud and hurt his knee. Not by the impact of the fall, but by losing his footing. He had an x-ray which showed there was no structural damage. But he is hardly able to get about. I saw him last evening and he is hobbling around, using a hiking stick of my sisters to steady him. The three of them are to get on a plane Sunday morning. Becky has talked him into using a wheelchair at the airport – and Don has made those arrangements.
It seems negotiations still remain at an impasse. The two sides meet again this morning. Word from our union is not positive. Weird to be in this space and having to address it to students yesterday. They are pretty understanding – some even saying they will join us on the picket lines Monday, instead of signing on for on-line learning.
Holding your concerns before the Lord.

In a whirlwind things can go from positive to unsettled, and yet God is always there. I’m sustained by that thought, truth. In the end the unsettled calmed down and positives will result today. It’s tough on an unbeliever who has many frustrations.
Prayers for Larry’s recovery, and the trip to FL with Becky and Don.
Hope for more information that provides a clearer understanding of your health concern.
Hard to imagine a squabble over safety at school, but lesser things have caused problems. Sure hope there is a positive, equitable, and enduring settlement. Safety First! Learning succeeds best in a safe environment.
The little snow that came didn’t do much to improve skiing. Yesterday was the worst of the season so far. Global warming, climate change, La Niña is having a devastating effect.
Worship and church council tomorrow. Thank You, Lord.
