New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

A sower went forth to plant a seed. In life, there are cycles of planting and growing and harvesting. …The imaginative power of these parables of Jesus is that they speak to us in different seasons of our lives and in different ways. Surely, we have been the hard ground that God’s love could not penetrate. We have been enthusiastic about something, but we soon lost passion and energy. Or we found a focus, and then the worries and concerns of the world distracted us. …

And then, at times, and all by God’s grace, we have been the good soil. God blessed us; God blessed others through us.

—Kenneth H. Carter Jr., A Beginner’s Guide to Practicing Scriptural Imagination (Upper Room Books, 2019)

Today’s Question

How receptive are you to God’s word? (Would you describe your soil as being rocky ground or fertile soil?) Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

The seed scattered on good soil are those who hear the word and embrace it. They bear fruit.
—Mark 4:20a (CEB)

I’m not the best soil, but certainly not granite. Thankful to have communities of faith, NEM and my church, opportunities to grow, and ways to contribute. Prayers for Julie and the caregivers support group plus progress selling the boat. Prayers for Jill’s classes while she is away visiting her Dad and sister.thankful for her leadership with the Bible study group. The worship plan is done, working on the message Amazing how ideas come to mind. the last two scripture readings of this week’s lectionary are the basis of the message. Will use a candle that won’t blow out, Thank You, Lord.

More receptive at times, not as much as I should be at others. I am asking God to help me to help me more embody the fruits of the Spirit and keep a more Christ-like countenance. Jill, like you, I tend toward sarcasm.
David is at his PT appointment. Praying this bears fruit. Our little 16 year old Scout had what appeared to be a seizure last night. She came out of it and ate well a couple of hours after. I put her in bed with us last night to keep an eye on her and she had a good night. She’s down for a vet visit first thing tomorrow. Not sure what Dr. Valerie will recommend. I feel our time with Scout is short and we won’t be asked to tell her farewell just yet. She is our sweetheart. Lewis has the sniffles again and I picked up meds for him today. Thanks so much to you all for prayers.
Prayers for Robert and team as they move forward in ministry with their church. PrYera for Julie, that the caregivers group provides needed support as she cares for H. Prayers for Jill, that she has a safe trip to Florida and enjoys time with her family. Prayers for Lou, April, Rick and Scott and all who are part of NEM and UR community.
A little warm here in middle Georgia, but lovely fall weather. Cooler temps are on their way and we got a good rain last night. Love to all.

I now have 3 under the weather kitties. Lucy’s recurring infection is trying to come back and she isn’t feeling well. Please pray for my babies.
In feeling so overwhelmed by the storms of life, today’s UR entry and scripture from Acts is comforting and sustaining. God has us.
