New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

If we choose to lock our doors for the security or reassurance of those on the inside, we should consider any unintended consequences to the physical safety of those gathered should an internal emergency occur, consulting with the local fire department, for example, to ensure that escape is still possible and that our fortress does not become a prison. We should consider the spiritual health of the community and what we are teaching explicitly or inadvertently about who belongs within or without our walls.
As in all things, we should always be ready to give an account of how our decisions reflect our obedience to the commandments: Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Today’s Scripture

But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you.

We must give an accounting of all of our actions. We must demonstrate how our actions were molded by the teachings of the Bible and Jesus.
Yesterday I had a counseling session with a person from a group that supports Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers. The organization is primarily a support for respite for the caregiver. They provide these sessions to facilitate the care relationship so that all are receiving what they need. Usually both patient and caregiver participate but I have been asked to be the only one due to the unique nature of our situation. Yesterday the counselor assured me that everything I am doing in my care for h is spot on which was reasssuring. The only thing we discussed for improvement is getting him out of the house more which I brought up.
Prayers for improved pain relief for Ally and improved stability for David. Prayers for Jill, her colleagues and students as they corporately grieve the passing of their teacher and friend. Prayers that the CBT is successful in healing Robert and Erich’s relationship.

In the same way we must be ever ready for Jesus’s return, we must be ready to account for our thoughts and actions. God us with us always and knows what’s going on , but like prayer wants to hear from us.
Very thankful that the threesome of Kelly, Lisa, and Bob are registered for the Basic Lay Servant class that begins October 17th. Hope this class helps us help CCUMC keep going.
Prayers for Julie, her caregiving, the Parkinson’s organization, and the goal of helping h get outdoors. Prayers for Ally&David, their different needs, there help for each other, and progress forward. Prayers for Jill and her school at the passing of a fellow teacher. Hope there are ways at school for everyone to feel support on a very tough time.
Prayers for our country as primaries have ended and midterm elections approach. Prayers for Pakistan and her people as they face horrendous conditions. I lift up the people of Afghanistan, Yemen, Tigray, and all areas where people have need for the basics of life, civil rights, and education. May Jackson MI soon have a proper water supply.
Thankful for resources and energy to live. Recent events have my family a bit closer. Hints of progress with CBT are very welcome, need to carry on.
Thankful to have witnessed the coronation, reign, and passing of Queen Elizabeth.
Blessings to all the NEM family. Thank You, Lord.
