New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Mary did not know exactly what Jesus would be, but she knew that he would fulfill promises made to Abraham, that through her son, “all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Gen. 12:3). Gabriel’s words echoed in her mind (“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end” [Luke 1:32-33]). Her son would ascend to King David’s throne in place of their current “king,” Herod, who was not a godly person. Somehow her son held the key to it all!

Today’s Question

How would you describe Mary’s attitude as she sang her song in response to Elizabeth’s greeting? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.”
—Luke 1:46-49 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Let us release the cares of our day,
and open our eyes to the wonder of God.

With an attitude of empathy to people of another time,
let us open our hearts and minds to God.

Let us prepare to experience God’s word to us
through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

From a man’s perspective I think Mary was amazed, excited, grateful, humbled, and perhaps even a bit proud that she would be remembered for what the Lord had done through her. She had a pregnancy conceived like no other. No other woman has experienced such a conception, yet after conceiving every woman who has born a child understands her human pregnancy. Amazing how God enabled her to deliver a human who would be transfigured to be wholly divine and wholly human.. Thank You, God.
Snow expected again today. Hope it stays cold, no rain. Snowfall is needed to help abate the drought and additionally providing skiing and snowshoeing fun. Have to see, but there may be skiing before Christmas.
Worship plans being developed as far ahead as Easter, pastor led Communion on January 1st, Very thankful for the progress being made.
Sunday is the 4th Sunday in Advent, the coming of Christ is nearing. Thank You, God.
Advent greetings, blessings, and prayers to all!

She had an attitude of not only submission but also pride. Based on the angel’s words she was probably thinkinng what many others would come to believe, that her son was to be a great earthly king, similar to David and that he would rule in a physical sense.
Tomorrow will be another day with Megan spending time with her father while I will be going to church. That way she and I will have Christmas and New Years days together. The kitties are enjoying their Advent calendar treats and toys.

Mary’s consistent humble heart desire – “May it be done to me according to Your Word.” Glorifying her heavenly Father was at the center of her heart intentions.
Dad saw the uroligist yesterday and his prostate cancer level was deemed moderate, neither high nor low. Hormone replacement was put on the table but discouraged by the doctor. The discussion turned to radiation. Dad has seen his brother’s continued struggles with radiation, two years completed now and is not interested in pursuing this. The doctor agreed – saying dad’s quality of life is so high right now, why mess with it. Dad will have a bone scan and cat scan in April, when he returns from Florida. If the cancer has metastasized at that time, chemo would be the only option. Radiation is off the table once the cancer has metastasized. The doctor still states that it is quite possible dad will die from something else before the prostate cancer has metastasized.
I am going down to Becky and dad’s here soon – and will see what 24 hours of processing this has led to, if anything. We will be playing cards again, having dinner and then off to my god son’s basketball game.
Light snowfall here this morning. A bit slippery on my run. Forecast is showing quite a bit of snowfall late next week with very cold temps. If this is true, should be a white Christmas.
I head to the beach on the 27th.
