New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The Holy Spirit draws us into a shared life by empowering us to walk in the light. We cannot walk in the light by our strength only. How often, especially within the setting of the church, do we tend to give the impression that we are more honest, more caring, more virtuous than we really are? In theory we may be willing to see the value of being open, honest, and transparent; but we seldom find it easy to put this theory into practice. Somehow it is easier to pretend to look good than to be good, to pretend to love than to love, to appear to be holy than to be holy. Rather than living in the power of the Spirit we become imposters of the Spirit.

Today’s Scripture

God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
—1 John 1:5-7 (NRSVUE)

it has been quite some time, 25 years, since I last honestly shared a weakness, sin with a sibling of faith. Before that it was 50 years ago. “In theory we may be willing to see the value of being open, honest, and transparent; but we seldom find it easy to put this theory into practice.”How true. I find it very difficult to find someone with whom I can do this. Super intimate trust in another person makes it possible and I did it. but thank God, I can more easily do this with God who knows me inside out. Thank You, Lord.

Robert, I concur with Julie. We are here for each other. I cherish this space and find it welcoming as well.

Robert, I earnestly pray for you to find such an individual in your vicinity. In the meantime, I have found this space to be safe and accepting. Please feel free to be open and honest with us. You will receive love and understanding only.

I shared with our pastor my inability to forgive someone who hurt and violated me several months back. I have struggled so with this over the last couple of weeks because standing up for myself regarding this issue has been costly. At this point, I cannot dpi it. I covet everyone’s prayers.

I am fortunate that I can speak this authentically with my three closest friends. I was able to speak with one this morning, and speak very truthfully about what I am experiencing and feeling right now with my sister. I also look forward to my appointment with my spiritual director in about 10 days, to go over my feelings regarding this situation we have found ourselves in.
Spent the morning rummaging around in my flowerbeds and planting. A comfortable morning to do so. Will be playing tennis this afternoon with my regular summer foursome. Will be the first time since last September the four of us have been on the court together.
Grateful for this safe space here, for companions who are willing to carry burdens of each other before our Loving Father.
