New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

ACCEPTING THE CALL of Christ does not mean simply that we have been invited to the banquet. It means we accept the task of inviting others as well. We take up the role of the servant, of extending God’s invitation to others to join in the great banquet. As Saint Teresa of Ávila said, “Jesus has no hands or feet on earth now but yours.” It is our task to play the role of the servant.

—Christopher Maricle, The Jesus Priorities: 8 Essential Habits (Upper Room Books, 2007)

Today’s Question

How can you serve others and invite them to join in God’s great banquet? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

Go therefore into the main streets, and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.
—Matthew 22:9 (NRSV)

I think doing as Christ would do as best we can is the way to bring others to the banquet. Feed the hungry, car for the sick, visit those in prison are examples. Yes, we can plant the seed and water it, but only God can make it grow. Shortly there will be some progress of another kind helpful to Erich. I am very grateful that this is possible.

It snowed yesterday, driveway is plowed, roads are bare, hopeful a ski trip will happen today.
Have a possible Face Time with my daughter and granddaughters this morning. Need ti be ready for that.
Heart surgery successful, MIKIE is home and doing well. Anneliese was able to walk to his house and visit. Prayers and blessings dear UR family! Thank You, Lord.

I would love to serve others, but with the Reynaud’s I am limited. I am trying to think od things I can do from home or do only part of the year. Megan enjoyed when we volunteered for Meals on Wheels and has indicated she would like to volunteer again. I cannot work with food due to hands but am trying to think of an alternative. There are several “Family Houses” in Pittsburgh where family members of hospital patients stay at reduced fees and they have kitchens and dining rooms and recreation areas. There are people that seek treatment at our hospitals from all over the country and world. Anyway, volunteers are needed for various posts at these including providing meals.
Prayers for Robert and his daughter and grandaughters, may they share more memories through facetime.
Prayers for Jill, may she be sustained through her long day. Prayers for BJ, so good to hear from her! Prayers for Lou, may her back remain pain free. Prayers for Andrea and her grandson, may his health improve.
Prayers for April, Betsy, Connie, Mary, Marcy, and Rick.
    Prayers and thank you UR

    Greetings all,
How can I serve others and invite them to join in God’s great banquet? This is a good question and one I ask myself often in prayer and meditation. Such as where are you leading me and what would you have me be or do? I have served my church and community in many ways. I find it is in the giving not in the getting that I feel blessed. I’ve missed you all terribly! School has been a huge change in my life. Although I’m very happy with the progress thus far. My schedule has been a bit crazy with last minute class changes, both morning and evening. I’m still trying to get my balance. Monday and Wednesday I have Algebra and World Religion, Thursday a.m. I have a double English class and Biology in the afternoon with a 3 hour lab on Tuesday following lecture. I’m just starting to get into the groove of class time, study as well as office time with my professors as needed. With Scott traveling and having to manage our cat LC’s diabetes schedule I’ve been very busy. I am using my drive time in the a.m. for mediation with abide. I’m feeling terrible that I’ve not been able to get caught up on the upper room. I keep thinking I’ll be able to get caught up on all the posts. I do miss you all and will continue to catch up. I wanted to at least let you know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
