A Story of Faith
Today's Reflection
AS WE MOVE along our spiritual journeys, we live in the tension between fear and fantasy. But I know of a third way to continue our spiritual journeys: We can choose to live a story of faith and trust in God and God’s goodness. Making this choice does not mean that we will never feel fear or submit to fantasies about the future. Stories of faith do not resolve this tension; instead, they help us transcend fear and fantasy in surprising ways by pointing toward the divine presence in our lives.
—Michael E. Williams, Spoken into Being: Divine Encounters Through Story (Upper Room Books, 2017)
Today's Question
What story of faith in God’s goodness can you share today?
Today's Scripture
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
—Colossians 2:6-7 (NRSV)
Prayer for the Week
I love to tell the story
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest.
From "I Love to Tell the Story" by
Katherine Hankey, The United Methodist Hymnal, No. 156

Today's Reflection
FAITH IS SIMPLE trust, as small as a mustard seed, and yet so very powerful. It enables us to relax, release worry, and know deep in our bones that God will not forget us, that we are loved unconditionally just as we are, and that God will be with us through whatever challenges and joys we experience.
—Tom Camp, Upper Room Disciplines 2019 (Upper Room Books, 2018)
Today's Question
By faith, can you release worry and trust that God is with you?
Today's Scripture
“The Lord replied, 'If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, "Be uprooted and planted in the sea," and it would obey you.'”
—Luke 17:6 (NRSV)
Prayer for the Week

Today's Reflection
PRACTICING AWARENESS and trust in God’s love is what spiritual disciplines are about. Just as our muscles require physical exercise, our faith requires daily practice of concentrated awareness of God’s abiding love. With the discipline our faith requires, we can even send God’s love to people and places all over the world. Awareness of God’s presence and prayers of loving kindness exercise the nerve pathways in our minds that can move our attention from all our worries and concerns to God’s presence.
—Tom Camp, Upper Room Disciplines 2019 (Upper Room Books, 2018)
Today's Question
Which spiritual disciplines enable you to practice greater awareness of God’s presence?
Today's Scripture
“Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us.”
—2 Timothy 1:14 (NRSV)

Today's Reflection
OUR IMPERFECTIONS are not evidence of total failure, defeat, or final death. Rather, they are doorways through which we enter spiritual transformation. Human imperfection invites us to let go of our ego and to live in faith in God’s ultimate love.
Imagine letting go of your balance and falling backward into God’s strong and loving hands. Ask God for faith to do so, and express gratitude to God for promising to hold you in love.
—Tom Camp, The Upper Room Disciplines 2019 (Upper Room Books, 2018)
Today's Question
What helps you trust in God’s ultimate love for you even when you face failure?
Today's Scripture
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.”
—2 Corinthians 12:9 (NRSV)
