New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The covenant-call to be God’s people, far from being primarily an invitation to special privilege, is first of all a summons to special responsibility. God calls a people to live in response to the needs of others, to live in right relationship with God, to bring justice and mercy to the land, and to lead the way toward peace and freedom. The covenant binds Israel to trust in God alone, not putting confidence in false prophets or false securities.

—From Seeking God’s Peace in a Nuclear Age: A Call to Disciples of Christ, in A Guide to Prayer for All God’s People by Rueben P. Job and Norman Shawchuck (Upper Room Books, 1990)

Today’s Question

What special responsibility has God called you to do? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.
—Hebrews 13:2 (NRSV)

Be as helpful as I can as often as I can. There’s always something that needs doing. The weekend begins tonight, a change of pace, respite from the workweek routine even for those of us who are retired. Breakfast with the pastor soon via ZOOM, will miss this unless the new pastor continues it. ZOOM worship Sunday. Life changes, thankfully God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is/are always there no matter what. Thank You, Lord

My current special responsibility is looking after dad, caring for him as needed. He rolled up in his new shiny black pick up truck, shortly after I got home from school. I don’t think he got a very good deal, but who really cares? He is 87 and should have a truck if he wants a truck. He made the comment that mom would never let them get a truck. So, good for him. I just hope he is very careful.
Grateful to make it through the week – I managed to make a dent in some of my grading today. It’s a good thing, because my weekend is pretty full.
Someone pulled the fire alarm today during one of the lunch periods. While we were waiting outside for the fire department to arrive, it started hailing. I was grateful to have my coat and a teacher came by with two umbrellas. Most of my students got pretty wet. Ah high school antics. One more month, many teachers were likely mumbling under their breath.

Right now, it seems my special responsibility is to care for David and keep him well. He had a severe esophageal spasm with acid reflux yesterday. He spent the night in the hospital for observation to rule out heart issues. All tests came back normal and he has follow-up appointments with his cardiologist and primary care physician next week. He’s home and feeling much better, thanks be to God.
Robert, I pray your new pastor will continue the Zoom breakfast. I know it is good fellowship. Jill, what a blessing for Larry to have a new truck! Prayers for you as you care for him and finish your school year.
Thanks to all who expressed concern and prayed for us while I was out of the loop. You are much in my prayers. Blessings to all!
