New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

DURING THE busyness and chatter of this season of the year, I can carve out space and time to sit in silence, quiet my inner noise, and turn toward God. … Whenever I feel overwhelmed and speeded up, I turn my attention inward, close my ears to outward noise, take some deep breaths, and sink down into the welcoming silence of the heart of God.

I invite you to be silent with God today. Take five, ten, or fifteen minutes to be still in God’s presence. Don’t worry if you are not successful during the first try. This discipline grows with practice. Keep carving out some space during each day. Have hope; God is there, waiting for you.

—Beth A. Richardson, The Uncluttered Heart: Making Room for God During Advent and Christmas (Upper Room Books, 2009)

Today’s Question

How can you make space to encounter God in silence?  Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

“For God alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from him.”

—Psalm 62:5 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Clear away the clutter, O God, that I might have more room for you.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room .

Something More

Slow down, simplify, and add a burst of color to your Advent. The spiritual practice of coloring mandalas (circular designs), lighting candles, and praying regularly can help us stay centered on God during this busy time of year. Give it a try. Color as you pray this Advent season.

I make space each morning. But I can also be more intentional throughout the day. When I have finished classes at school – just take a few reflective moments and thank God for the ability to do my job well.
The extra time this weekend as well as yesterday morning certainly yielded clarity and direction for the days ahead. I had an abundant amount of time yesterday morning as I did not go to school. I finally gave in and called my doctor, two weeks since having the flu shot. Thankfully – I got an appointment in the morning and now am on antibiotics. Following the appointment I was able to get some necessary errands done – which was helpful.
Good to have more participants here…Rick – hope you will feel led to share regularly. And so good to hear from Marcy – we miss you when you are absent and are concerned for your well being. Thinking of Andrea, Rusty and Betsy especially. Imagining the excitement in the eyes of Andrea’s and Betsy’s grandsons this holiday season and the joy of Betsy being closer to her family.

I like to spend some quiet time in the presence of God every night before I sleep. There is joy and peace.

Blessings to all and may we find joy and peace as we spend some quiet time with God!

My many year habit is to have QT early in the morning when quiet is more prone to be present. It was particularly helpful when the UR daily reflection came early too. Now I have to try a bit harder, but effort pays off. It can be done. I NEED IT. Before I go to sleep is also good.

After long bus rides, two subway routes, and 3 hours with the new counselor, my inability to communicate the problem has me no closer to a resolution. I’m not done, but will try closer to home. Hopefully it will also be better covered by insurance.

Have some helpful new information from my son. Need to be very careful finding a counselor.

Glad Jill has time and good plans to handle this Advent season, hope both she and her Dad benefit. I too remember Rusty, Marcy, Connie, Andrea, and Betsy. Grateful for Julie and Mary’s daily posts. Blessings to all the UR family, you are appreciated through your presence and posts. Thank You, Lord!

I really would like to do this. I have a tendency to always have some kind of “noise” in the backgound. I have many coloring books and do enjoy this activity (suggested in the Someting More section above).
Prayers for Jill, suffering from an infection, may the antibiotic be effective. May the flu shot continue to be effective in keeping Jill flu free.
Prayers for Mary and her increased leadership role in her church, may she have continued success.
Prayers for Robert, for safe travel and may he find a great counsellor close to his home that takes his insurance.
Prayers for Rick. Hallelujah and praise God for the wonderful medical news for your husband. May you both be blessed and rejoice anew this season.
Prayers for Marcy, may she be safe and well and receive aide from someone in her time of need. I feel so helpless and useless.
    Prayers and thank you UR

My husband was having an affair with a co-worker and i love my husband so much but he was cheating on me with his co-worker and this girl i think use witchcraft or black magic on my husband to make him hate me and this was so critical and uncalled-for, I cry all day and night for God to send me a helper to bring back my boyfriend! I was really upset and i needed help, so i searched for help online and I came across a website that suggested that Dr Unity can help get ex-boyfriend back fast. So, I felt I should give him a try. I contacted him and he told me what to do and i did it, then he did a love spell for me. 11hours later, my husband really called me and told me that he miss me so much, Oh My God! i was so happy, and today i am happy with my man again and we are joyfully living together and i thank the powerful spell caster Dr.Unity, he is so powerful and i decided to share my story on the here. if you are here and your Lover is turning you down, or your husband moved to another woman, do not cry anymore, contact Dr.Unity for help now..Here’s his contact,Email him at: Unityspelltemple@gmail. com
