When I imagine my journey with God and with my children as a boat sailing on the ocean, the winds of the Holy Spirit guiding it where it will, I feel freer. I can give myself more grace in my parenting and not be so hard on myself when I mess up. I release the expectation that I have all the answers or know the “right” way to do things.
—Lauren Burdette, This Life That Is Ours: Motherhood as Spiritual Practice (Upper Room Books, 2019)
Where do you feel the winds of the Holy Spirit guiding you? Join the conversation.
[Jesus said,] “The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
—John 3:8 (NRSV)
Prayer for the Week
May I be a river, free of attachments, flowing lavishly and abundantly through the day, moving with your currents, and bringing life and refreshment to my children. Amen.

Despite the crazy housing market, a house up the street asking $344K got $415K, we’re still interested in the Poconos. Our district superintendent will come to worship with us Sunday and help us understand possibilities for the future. Huge change is required. Had a longer walk than planned yesterday, my hip is doing much better. Continued prayers for the health. well-being, needed job, disability paperwork, care for others, improving pets, end of school year, mitigation activity, and mental health concerns of the NEM family. Prayers too for the people of Ukraine, the battle over abortion, and the inclusion issue in the UMC. Thank You, Lord for the blessings of the day.
Easier said than done, but doing good for those who abuse you is what God wants. Yes. patience is needed.May you have it in abundance Julie. Mom said some very tough to hear words to both my sister and me when her dementia grew worse. Eventually she didn’t know who we were. Hope the return from FL to OH goes well and Jill has the energy needed for all that tennis plus exam grading.
Wishes for positive developments for Ally & David.
I suppose the winds are blowing me into a new caregiving position even as they steer me through my own health issues. I had an appointment with my PCP yesterday. I left with an order for PT as I wanted. It is time to address my inability to walk and manage steps properly.
Prayers for Ally who has been noticably absent of late, may she be well. I texted her to check in. Prayers for Jill, Larry and Becky as Mother’s Day approaches, may all remember with fondness happy times spent with Gloria. Prayers for Robert as he continues to work for his move and for his present church.
I don’t believe I sense a specific direction the Spirit is calling me to. I hope to be more intentional with the time I spend with dad this summer – now that he will be in Florida for half of the year.
I can tell right now as we try to fit golf in on the weekends – he forgets, or wants me not to be as strict with being home for Roger for his shot. We have a tee-time Sunday at noon. Play is generally slower on the weekend – so we might not finish until 5. He wants to grab dinner afterwards, but I told him I need to be home for Roger. In the summer, it won’t be an issue – as we golf in the morning and then can grab lunch. Playing on Sunday’s – with church – does not give us an opportunity to have a meal also. We will try to do Saturdays for the rest of this month – as we can start earlier and then eat afterwards.
As I sit here now, my students are taking their exam, paper 1. Robert – I do not get to grade these, they are sent to various corners of the world to be assessed. I feel like if I can see my students’ work – I might be disappointed. We wait for the scores to arrive the first week of July. I imagine based on the difficulty perceived on today’s exam – attendance will be impacted one way or the other for my study session tomorrow.
Rainy and dreary here. Hoping my god son is able to play baseball tomorrow – but the ground is likely to be saturated. His season is winding down. There will always be summer ball. There is always another game…either baseball or basketball.
