New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

[The Examen] invites us to review the specific events of our day and prayerfully reflect on where we felt more connected or less connected to God. The Examen includes these four steps:

1. Emmanuel—“God with us.” Give thanks for the assurance of God’s constant presence.

2. Gratitude. In the past day, when did you feel closest to God? Give thanks.

3. Growth. When did you feel the least connected with God? Offer these moments to God and say “I’m sorry.”

4. Hope. Look ahead to the next day. Invite God to walk through the day with you.

Today’s Scripture

In [God] we live and move and have our being.
—Acts 17:28 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Gracious God
whose love encircles all,
You are the one in whom I live
and move and have my being.
Thank you for the moments
when I see you most clearly.
I am sorry for the times I have turned away
from your loving presence.
With hope I look toward the new day to come,
heart aflame with your love and grace.
I am grateful that you are with me
every moment of every day.
Amen.

I think Growth is the most meaningful. Always need to grow. There’s always room for improvement. Only grace through faith will make up for what’s lacking. A beautiful drive through Pinkham Notch to Gorham and then on to Bethel Maine area yesterday. The maples were spectacular. Clear views to the top of Mount Washington. Crisp cool weather with sunshine. Up and getting ready for worship this morning. Want to practice giving the message. Thankful life enabling resources came, lately earlier than usual. Blessings to you
all on this, the Lord’s day. Thank You, Lord.

The part which proves to be most meaningful to me (when I commit to doing the Examen) is where I felt most closely connected to God…which activities was I most aware of His presence or being intentional about my words and deeds, to His glory.
A beautiful Fall day today. It was a simple joy to spend time on the golf course with my new teammate from the summer. We both were missing church, but were grateful for the time together. It has been good to connect with her – I was excited this summer to learn that she is a Believer. We haven’t spoken in depth about our beliefs – but she is a joyful person. We grabbed lunch at the club following our round. The colors were spectacular and the sky was a brilliant blue. We got around quickly and I am happy to have some time at home to grade and write a few letters of recommendation prior to my tennis match this evening.
Beginning to look forward to seeing my family in Florida on Friday. I am flying out after school and will be there through Tuesday evening. It will be good to see dad so happy and to learn of how he spends his time. He and Don bought me a used set of golf clubs yesterday so the four of us can golf together. Dad turned 89 yesterday – we will be celebrating his birthday while I am there.

Hope. Its hard for me to have at times, but expressing hope in the future helps.
David starts outpatient PT next week. I have been having some stomach issues and would appreciate some prayer. I did make it to church today and we had a wonderful service of worship. My home church voted to stay UMC today. Hallelujah. Trying to focus on the positive things.
Robert, your day trip sounds wonderful. Fall is my favorite time of year. Jill, how wonderful to discover your teammate is a believer. I pray traveling mercies for and a wonderful time with your family.
Prayers for all my NEM friends. Prayers for the people of Ukraine and Russia, the people in Iran who are protesting oppression, and all who live under tyranny. Love to all..
