New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

HUMILITY IS NOT pretending to think less of ourselves but thinking more of others. Relating to people with reverent humility means that we value them as one-of-a-kind creations whose ordinary human lives contain something of the extraordinary image of God—even the people who are most difficult. Reverent humility enables us to listen.

—James A. Harnish, Extraordinary Ministry in Ordinary Time: An Invitation to Renewal for Pastors (Upper Room Books, 2020)

Today’s Scripture

As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.

To have an awareness of “But, there, by the grace of God, go I”. That was my thought as dad and I talked on the way home Sunday evening, from serving dinner at the homeless shelter. Dad says each time he leaves there he is depressed. There was a mom there with five children – that really impacted dad. He said – how does she get to that place in her life? Who fights for her? I wonder in how many instances it was just one poor decision and then a downward spiral.
To humbly recognize the evil which exists inside of me and continuously draw on God – His strength, trusting in His transformative work.
It is still a task I fail often – seeing the image of God in other people. It does require humility and compassion…deep compassion. And God loves each one, His creation.
Beautiful sunshine yesterday, unseasonably warm – took a long walk when I got home from school yesterday. So good to feel the warmth of the sun. Dad left for Florida last evening – may the sun, his time with my sister and a change of scenery do him well.

I know that each person has intrinsic value and wisdom. I know that I can learn from everyone. I treat each person with compassiona nd curiosity. Everyone from every station in life and society is of value to me in my time on this earth. They can impart wisdom to me, young, old, rich, and poor.
That mother may have done nothing to “wind up in that place.” So often circumstances work against a person. A company closes or a physical ailment drains all financial resources (even with insurance). There are people with “good” educations that work for “solid” companies that go bankrupt. These are the people I learn from the most.
Prayers for jill and Larry, may Larry be safe as he travels and find respite from his cares and sorrow.
Prayers for Robert and his upcoming dental surgery and doctor’s appointment, may both go well with minimal pain and good results. May his doctor direct him to a new therapist.
Prayers for physical healing for Andrea, Connie and Marcy. Prayers for emotional healing for Andrea, Connie, Lou and Marcy. Prayers of blessings for April, Betsy, BJ, Edy, Mary and Rick.
    Prayers and thank you UR

I need extra doses of reverent humility. Having a non-believer in the house is tough. No progress at the moment on the business, some product to sell is on the way. There is progress in an another area that potentially offers some good ego boost. More snow will help the ski season.

Erich is frustrated with his situation. I can understand that.

Off to the dentist in the morning. Thank you for your prayers. Time to get a good night’s sleep, have to be there at 8 am.

Prayers for Larry, Jill, and Becky. Safe travel, Larry.
Safety and helpful results with hands and foot for Julie
Medical care, the resources needed for well being to Marcy.
A safe and successful mission trip for Mary.
Good health, well being, and resolution to all.
    Thank You, Lord.

Had some helpful information today that I hope will facilitate better results when I meet a new therapist.
