New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

WHEN FAITH COMMUNITIES commit to sabbath practices as a community, they become allies for themselves, families, and workers. Houses of worship that are purposeful in designing meaningful gatherings that provide structure and inspiration for their congregants to practice rest, worship, and community help them be happier and more productive during the workweek.

—J. Dana Trent, For Sabbath’s Sake: Embracing Your Need for Rest, Worship, and Community (Upper Room Books, 2017)

Today’s Question

Does your faith community help you practice rest? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

[Jesus] said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
—Mark 6:31 (NRSV)

Yes – I would say to a certain point. I do enjoy the quietness and relaxed, reverent atmosphere of worship at my home church. I feel like my church – a church plant 11 years ago – is finding its legs, as we are now approaching our one year anniversary of independence. As our young pastor matures, I think he is becoming more aware of the need for quietness and stillness, to just sit and be with oneself and God. There are good undertones through the service. I also adore one of the churches where I attend the cancer support group. The worship music always seems to be just right – setting the mood for the sermon to come and then accentuating the key points at the end. I feel like I have had a more meaningful worship time/experience of God at this church. I leave there feeling full of Him, always a good thing.
Dad and I are meeting for dinner tonight and then attending that church, as they have a Saturday evening service. I have been telling dad how much I love the church and asked if he wanted to join me after we do dinner tonight. Following the church service – I will attend my god-daughter’s tournament game. It is likely their last game as the opponent tonight is highly ranked in the state. I think they have too much athleticism and height for my god-daughter’s team to compete with. Still – it has been a great season. They are 22-2 currently.
Waiting for this very cold spell to break. Haven’t ran outside since Tuesday morning. Still too cold for me this morning. I will be on my elliptical – not my favorite.

I am not sure my church does a lot with REST. It may be interwoven with fellowship time. Church is definitely not rush-rush, no hectic pace, but also no still and quiet time.

Yesterday was quite a day, bills paid early, a nice blueberry-brown sugar flavored dish of oatmeal, the car gassed up, some food shopping, lunch, REST, then a trip to ME for Korean food before night skiing, followed by a win by my college hockey team, and sleep.

Church and a new month tomorrow, Glad to know friends in Korea are ok. Prayers for protection from the coronavirus and successful healing for those with it. Wisdom and guidance for all in the health profession. Thank You, Lord.

No, people came, sat in “their” pew, we went through the standard service and people filed out, greeting the pastor and leaving. Period.
Prayers for Jill and Larry, may they enjoy the church service and their time together. Prayers for Jill’s god-daughter’s team, may they do well this evening and with no more injuries.
Prayers for Robert, may his health continue to be so robust so he may continue his many hobbies including skiing.
Snowy and windy here, should warm up tomorrow. Thank goodness, my hands and feet are feeling this cold. I can’t complain as we have had a warmer winter thank normal. Thank you Lord. Sorry for the constant weather reports but the weather forcast is something I watch intently this time of year.
The teaching hospital here in Pittsburgh is one of the few in the country that have been given live coronavirus samples in order to develop a vaccine. After all the polio vaccine was developed here.
Prayers for Andrea, April, Betsy, BJ, Connie, Edy, Lou, Mary, Marcy and Rick.
    Prayers and thank you UR

I find rest sitting in the small neighborhood church I attend. Just walking in the door and being in that space gives me a sense of God’s quiet comfort and peace. The bell choir practices every Wednesday and the Sunday performances are an added joy of community, worship, and praise.

Thank you for your prayers Thankfully, my daughter and I have worked through the conflict of a month or so ago, and our conversations have brought a new closeness. That seems like a small miracle and I am very grateful.

Prayers for Julie’s hands and feet, for her medication to work, and for her over-all well-being. Prayers for all that Robert is juggling as he provides parental support to Erich, and prayers for good health for him, Erich, and Anneliese. Prayers for Jill and her new medication, may it be effective, for her students and school, for her dad and goddaughter. Prayers for Lou and her three young adult children, may all be well with them. Prayers for Rick and his partner, for BJ, and for April. Prayers for those who haven’t commented since switching to the new format, Connie, Marcy and Mary, I miss them . Prayers for all UR visitors. Prayers that you be safe and protected in God’s loving arms through this difficult time here and in the world. Precious Lord, take our hands and lead us in Your Way. Amen.
