New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The qualities that made the desert perilous, however, provided just what the desert Christians sought. In the wilderness, they found the external landscape that their interior terrain needed. A desert exposes everything; it provides little room to hide from others, from God, or from oneself. Divested of the possessions, relationships, and rhythms of life that defined them in the city, the ammas found a freedom in the desert that would have been hard to come by otherwise.

—Jan L. Richardson, In the Sanctuary of Women: A Companion for Reflection and Prayer (Upper Room Books, 2010)

Today’s Question

How might you encounter new freedom by divesting yourself of some things that define you?

Today’s Scripture

you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
—1 Peter 2:9 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

We are waking, God.
We are waking,
and we pray
that we may know you
as manna in the desert,
wellsprings in the wilderness,
honey from the rock,
O God our habitation
and our way.

Hopefully I’ll soon be moving to a state I have only visited . Will be on new turf that’s away from northern New England., but thankfully still in the Northeast. In some ways a renewal of familiarity with my German heritage and connection to Korean culture in an area that has mountains. Will be closer to my daughter and grandchildren. Very thankful that the nagging plumbing problems have been fixed. Patching and painting a hole caused by the plumbing problem is next. Soon the condo will be ready first sale.
Continued prayers for the many concerns expressed by Ally&David, Julie’s health., well-being, and future, Jill, her Dad, his move and adjustment, as well as the needs and concerns of the NEM
family. Hopes and prayers for the people of Ukraine . May the war end soon: Thank You. Lord.

I would say that my good health and daily exercise defined me. My health has suffered for three months and I have been unable to exercise. The only freedom I feel is to sleep in a little each day.
We may be able to adopt the two kitties I mentioned before. They are bonded brothers and one has one eye. So few people are willing to adopt them. Please pray for this to work out as we would give them a wonderful home. We cherish our babies and treat them as family members.
Prayers for Ally and David and Jeremy and Scout and Roger, may all their health improve. Prayers for Jill’s evaluation and Larry’s new home, may both go well. Prayers for April’s caregiving sacrifices and Lou’s search for a new endeavor for her free time. Prayers for Robert’s safe travel and many home improvements, may they aid in the sale of the condo.

One thing which used to define me was constantly thinking the other person needed to change so that I could have an improved relationship with them. When I finally stopped expecting them to change and asked God to change my heart instead – there was lasting improvement and much better relations.
There was a time when my first love was basketball. I coached it and spent an inordinate amount of time trying to make my basketball team successful. Once I stepped away from coaching, I was able to see how unbalanced my life was.
I try to be aware nowadays – of my interest in tennis…how much time I am willing to put into it, the toll it takes on my body. I believe I have found a good balance – with a significant upswing in time given during summer to tennis.
Balance is a huge thing, with proper prioritizing necessary.
School was busy and flew by today. A quick errand on the way home and then an evening at home with Roger.

One practice I have used a few times lately with a prayer partner is the daily examen. I have come to the realization that I over-think everything. I make some things hard. When I over-think, I will ask God to show me and listen to God instead of thinking too hard.
David and I see the counselor tomorrow. We ask for continued prayers so that we can be better human beings, better partners to each other. Our marriage is not troubled at this point, but I can see how it could become troubled without intervention now. Yesterday, we went to a local botanical garden and I tripped on a tree root and fell. I was not seriously injured, but got some scrapes, sprained my left wrist, and pulled a muscle in my back. I have been rather sore today, but feeling better now. Thankful for no serious injuries. I finally spoke with disability adjudicator in charge of my case. I now have some appointments scheduled for exams. Thankful for a little progress. Jeremy is much his old self and Scout’s wound has healed nicely. Thank you for your prayers.
Lou, I’m glad you had a visit with your youngest and that the construction project is almost finished. Prayers for balance of work and homelife. April praying for your “new normal” as caregiver. May God’s grace abound as you carry on. Robert, prayers for your visit to the Poconos and for your transition. I pray for Reich’s future and for your daughter and brands. May many blessings come. Julie, praying the adoption of the 2 kitties works out. As kitty mom to 2 with special needs who have passed on, there is great joy in getting the love of pet companions with special needs. Sounds like those2 need you and Megan. Praying for healing for you. Jill, thank you for sharing about finding balance in your life. My dad coached basketball and had to make hard decisions about continuing. He said he never regretted giving it up. Praying for your family as Larry transitions to Florida. So glad Roger is feeling better and the new diet seems to be working.
The situation in Ukraine is heartbreaking. I am trying not to fear for our world. I pray and it seems my prayers are inadequate. I pray anyway. God, be with us.
