New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Home, like family, actually has very little to do with the people or places of our birth. Even the words home or family can bring fear to the many people who live their lives without knowing either. Our collective testimonies seem to say that homes and families are intentional creations, and we are drawn to seek and create them for ourselves and others.

When we say we have “found a home,” we are often speaking of the place and people where our worth is affirmed by love.

—Ray Buckley, “Where We Bury Our Umbilical Cord,” in The Upper Room Disciplines 2024 (Upper Room Books, 2023)

Today’s Scripture

[Jesus said,] “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”

Home is where family gathers. Thankfully I have experienced home for many years. At the moment it isn’t quite the same. Yes, my son lives with me, but he and his sister do not get along, She has her own family and lives some distance away. Thankfully, I do get to visit my daughter and her family.
My wife, their mother, has been with the Lord for almost 27 years. Faith in God keeps me going.
    Thank You, Lord.

Prayers for you and your son, Robert.
I have a difficult daughter, who is the mother of my grandson. I fear she is mentally ill. She is angry at me again and, as has happened often in the past, has cut me off. This comes right after we visited her in another state where she, her husband, and our grandson live. I am discouraged and sad and ask for your prayers for us.
Home is where my husband is. Though he is in remission from multiple myeloma, he is experiencing some symptoms that are leading to a number of diagnostic tests.
Though I comment infrequently, I read here every day and keep the NEM family in my prayers. God bless all who visit here today.
