New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

God is always doing a new thing; and, if we are willing, God will do a new thing in us today. We can step out, step up, and enter into a new place where God can heal us, free us, and offer us help and hope.

God can do that for others too—those we love, those we are praying for. Let that be our prayer today.

—Todd Outcalt, Let Us Go Now to Bethlehem: Daily Devotions for Advent and Christmas (Upper Room Books, 2020)

Today’s Question

What do you think about John Wesley’s belief that God loves us as we are but God loves us too much to let us remain as we are? How might reflecting on that thought stir you to action? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being!
—2 Corinthians 5:17 (NRSVUE)

Prayer for the Week

Creator God, as you have made all things, I know you are still creating in me too. You are not finished working on me. Thank you for your patience throughout the seasons of my life, and I pray that I may offer beauty, comfort, relief, joy, and strength to those I encounter today. Help me to rely upon your counsel through all of the adversity of my life. Amen.

God wants us to continually grow in our spirituality. Our love for him should grow as well. Our obedience to and dependence on him should grow deeper. The Lord should become the center of our world. His will for us should be our will for ourselves.

This John Wesley quote was new to me when I began attending my current church in 2017. Thank God for the truth in it and for the working of the Spirit to ready me for the transition I didn’t know I needed. He is always working, most assuredly when I am least aware of it and the need for it. If left to my own devices, I would likely be content. Father God – continue to stretch me.
A lazy day today. It is so nice that the kittens let me sleep in. And it is wonderful to have a nice slow morning, unconcerned with time or schedule.
Off to my god son’s game this evening. Yesterday – driving went ok and time at my dad’s and sister’s was good. The meal was delicious and we got lots of cards in. My sister and I took a walk. One of my tennis teammates lives in her neighborhood – so she and her dog joined us on the walk.
