New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Though Christmas often focuses on the family and gifts, there dwells a constant theme that the Child of Bethlehem is for the whole world. The angels announce that the good news of great joy is “for all people” and the heavenly choir sings, “Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace, good will among people” (Luke 2:10, 14). There is a global and life-changing, world-changing context to this Birth in Bethlehem.

—Larry J. Peacock, The Living Nativity: Preparing for Christmas with Saint Francis (Upper Room Books, 2018)

Today’s Question

With whom can you share the good news of great joy? Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Luke 2:10-11 (NRSV)

I hope that the love I give is how I share the Good News with everyone I meet- the stranger on the street, the patient in my office, and with my own children. I hope for more joy in my heart – the birth of the Christchild is reason enough if I can only focus on that- but I admit that I get distracted and stuck in a pity party of memories of what my life used to be like and how happy I was in that life-holidays are the hardest even surrounded by my three beautif children. They wanted to watch old videos of their childhood the other day – how bittersweet – it was quite painful.
But today- I am focused on the love of God and the joy that comes from knowing that love – and that He will never leave us.
I am enjoying quiet time in the light of the Christmas tree before my children are up. I am thankful that I am able to provide a very nice Christmas celebration for them. The service was wonderful last night with my pew that was full. Thank you God. Thank you for the gift of your Son- the most precious gift.
Thank you for all here at the UR- special Christmas love and blessings to you all.
Prayers for all of those who are grieving this season – any kind of hardship or loss- God is with you.
Love to you Connie on the loss of your beloved aunt- and also for your memories especially of your daughter. Prayers of Peace for you and for all who grieve -for you and your family Jill, for Mary and her family- all recent losses and memories that tug at our hearts.
Thankful for support and good words from Andrea, BJ, Rick, and Robert – sage travles to Brooklyn. And prayers for Julie and Megan’s father. Thankful for this community of believers. Merry Christmas.

Thank you, Lou. God bless you and your children as you celebrate Christmas together. You are such a blessing to them.
      Merry Christmas!

I have shared the joy of Christmas and have it ready for those whose hearts may open to receive it. Thankful for the UR family that shares joy so freely and well. May this be a blessed, joyous, and thanksgiving full Christmas for all. Thank You, Lord, for the precious gift given to us today.

Thank you Lou for your post early this Christmas morning. Prayers for God’s peace to be with you. You and your children experienced a tough loss. I think we can all be through the same event, but have different reactions to it. That is true for me and my children.

Prayers for Jill, Larry, and Becky; Connie, and all who have lost someone. May Julie be comforted physically and emotionally as she deals with Raynaud’s and her home situation.
Prayers for Marcy, Rick, and K that healing, resources, insurance, and well being are restored and maintained.
Thankful for continued prayers and support from the UR family.
    Peace be with you.
