New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The early Christian community drew people irresistibly because it offered a rich alternative. New followers were enveloped into a family of faith that offered care and support. Early Christianity grew because people prayed together, read the Word together, and looked after one another’s basic needs for food or shelter. Historians tell us that Christians nursed each other through the plagues of fatal illness that rampaged through the densely populated, unsanitary Roman cities, while other groups abandoned the ill to their death. In its origins, if not now, the Christian community offered relationship, care, and survival in harsh times.

The most significant time was during mom’s struggle, especially the final 60 days of her life when the cancer came back with a vengeance and she was at home under palliative/hospice care.
I suspect I will have good support with my upcoming surgeries.
So many ways to assist others…emotionally, practically, spiritually.
Foggy here this morning – was hoping to see the sun. We have had a few gloomy days, with some very strong storms. It is supposed to be beautiful today and tomorrow.

I can think of many times when my family of faith has helped and supported me, becoming our family of faith after David and I were married. When our faith family cared and supported us through Covid was especially meaningful. That is when I reached out to the NEM community. In my isolation and despair, I needed you and you were here. I looked forward each day to reading the daily devotional, the scriptures, my prayer time, and talking to my NeM friends. You are so special to me. God used you to hold me up. David said he felt your prayers as well. I still marvel at the miracle of his recovery and that people all over the world prayed for us. Truly the body of Christ.

What I remember most vividly was when I was in the midst of the divorce and was desperately seeking employment. I went to the church railing after the service to cry out to the Lord. The church secretary came and gave me a hug. It meant the world to me at that time as I felt so alone.
