New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Though typically associated only with artists and children, creativity partially reflects the image of God within each of us. It is one strand of our divine DNA. The other strand is love, which is enormously creative. Woven together in a double helix, creativity and love compose the soul’s purpose in life while providing the tools to mirror our Creator. They are the means as well as the end of the journey, the path as well as the purpose.

—Karla M. Kincannon, Creativity and Divine Surprise: Finding the Place of Your Resurrection (Upper Room Books, 2005)

Today’s Question

Today’s Scripture

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

—1 John 4:16 (NIV)

We can be creative in the ways we love our neighbor, one another, as ourselves. Thankful for a new month, renewed resources, and new friends met on yesterday’s walk. Praying for positive results for Julie and Megan, good health for everyone, safe conditions at schools, finding the right job, and safe travel. Thankful the military evacuation ended safely, prayers for Afghans wherever they are. Prayers fir all in Ida’s path, may rescue, restoration, and aid efforts reach all who need help. May conditions help fire fighters battling enormous fires. Thankful that vaccination rates are increasing.
Lord, we always need You, thank You, Lord, for Your ever presence.

As I spoke of earlier, the spice company Penzey’s owner speaks about the creativity of cooking and baking and how it shows our love for those we feed. he explains that he believes that if we are cooks and bakers that means we are full of love for others including those we may not know. I fully believe his words in that my creativity is seen in my cooking and baking and I believe this is a manifestaion of my love for mankind.
My lawyer’s secretary called early this morning to make an appointment to discuss the pretrial hearing which is at the end of the month. I am frightened and do not know what will happen or how quickly. I have liked the slow pace.
Prayers for Ally’s and David’s health and financial issues and the health of their loved ones battling various health challenges. Prayers for Jill as she continues to teach during the first week of school while dodging jury duty. May her and Larry’s health improve. Prayers for Robert and Erich as they continue to receive counseling, may it helpp with their individual issues as well as their relationship issues. Prayers for Marti and her staff. Prayers for those in the world that Robert listed. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

Love should be the impetus, as well as the ingredient, of every interaction and act. Being mindful of God’s great love for us and seeking to emulate His Son should directly impact how we life out our lives.
Last night after I had went to bed, I received a text from my former student saying she tested positive for covid and the blimp ride was cancelled. I was not that excited for it in the first place, so it wasn’t a big disappointment. My concern is for her health. She said she feels like she has a cold. She was worried about her parents, as they had been in each other’s company. They had masks on. But she is so careful and always fully masked – she doesn’t know how she got it. It is pretty scary that someone who is minimally in contact with others and is super precautionary can catch this. Makes me wonder what the chances are that we remain in person at school.
Looking forward to meeting two of my classes today. We have switched to a block schedule so I will see 2 classes on “A” days and 3 classes on “B” days. I have never taught on the block before – so a big new twist in my 29th year of teaching.
Julie, may you sense God’s presence in these coming days, heading towards the pre-trial meeting.
