New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Those who place their trust in Christ receive his peace, a peace that is unspeakable and unknown. We are thankful first and foremost for what Jesus Christ has done for us. It is by the Holy Spirit that “we know the things of God” and experience God’s power in our lives. And the fruit of the Spirit is “the meek and lowly heart.” Thankfulness for the activity of the Spirit in our hearts and lives marks the true Christian.

—Paul Wesley Chilcote, quoted in A Guide to Prayer for All Who Walk with God, by Rueben P. Job, Norman Shawchuck, & John S. Mogabgab,  (Upper Room Books, 2013)

Today’s Scripture

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

I would like to say that the peace of Christ rules more in my life than it did in earlier times. Only God really knows. I feel more at ease, concerns trouble me less. I see ways forward a day at a time.
Life after Roger progresses. No ideas of a new pet? Your actions hint that’s not on your mind, Jill. Hope your tennis partner’s knee injury heals soon. Are there other ways for you to keep playing until she returns?
Julie’s health and her care for h are on my mind. Things seem to be progressing overall with some issues more concerning. Have no idea where h is in his situation, both of you should be safe. You will need breaks from this stress producing environment.
Will be delighted when David comes home, concern over sources of income whether job and or disability help come through.
Worship this morning, by this time tomorrow I’ll be headed for the bus to Boston. Plan to return on the 23rd from Rhinebeck.
    Have a blessed Sunday.

Unquestionably, the peace of Christ is deeply embedded in my life. Words can’t fully describe the depth of my gratitude and the experience of it. Even evident this week, as I parted ways with little Roger.
Yes, Robert, at some point – I will definitely be welcoming another feline into my home. It won’t take me 7.5 years like it did the last time. My mom always said I should have two, but Roger was just a solo cat. We will see what happens in the future, but one or two will grace my home again and there will be love. I finally brought myself today to vacuuming his favorite spots or his most frequent spots the last week of his life. I called him “my love machine” – and that is what he was. I am so deeply aware of having an additional 8 months with him, to help him in his battle with diabetes. As I look back over it, I see some parallels with the time I was caregiving for my mom. I hope that’s not weird. But, nevertheless I have had some thoughts along those lines.
It was good to be in church today. I spoke with a member of the cancer support group who has been attending my church – it is closer for her. I had her daughter as a student several years ago. She was teary eyed this morning and confided in me some issues at home. She has moved out and has moved in with her parents. I tried to listen well and comfort her.
Met to play tennis with my “regular” doubles partner – as she is fresh back from a cruise with her family to Alaska. She wanted to hit before our match tomorrow. We hit indoors as it has been lightly raining all day.
My injured “new partner” will be on the shelf for some time. The captain sent out the line up for this Wednesday’s match – and I was placed with whom I suspected I would be. We should be a good pairing, but I am afraid her “regular” partner is not going to be pleased with the whole situation. She has been super nice and welcoming me to the team. But now the apple cart is upset a little bit. I suspect she will still be very pleasant with me, but inwardly disappointed.
