New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Jesus lives in the moment for the sake of what lasts forever; he invites us to focus on the now for the sake of the eternal. Focusing on everything else—all the tomorrows to come—only serves to get us lost in worry. As a result, we may be ready to answer Jesus’ question with a laundry list of reasons that we worry. For many of us, our worries are not nearly as fundamental as whether we will be able to eat or drink or have clothes to wear. Yet Jesus insists that God’s provision means that even when our future is uncertain with regard to these basic necessities, we still need not worry. The world may tell us that we must chase after everything we need and desire in life, but Jesus says that God already knows what we need and is ready to provide for us.

Today’s Question

What things do you worry about the most? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink,[j] or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”
—Matthew 6:25 (NRSV)

Things I worry about the most…that my surgeries will require repairs as opposed to just clean-ups. That I will not be gracious accepting help from others. That dad will have a serious car accident, before Becky and I are wise and brave enough to have a courageous conversation with him.
Dad got a new vehicle Friday and had a minor accident – backing into his brother’s car and garage. His new vehicle does not have the sensors on the back bumper, warning him he was in danger of hitting something.
Dad and I played golf this morning. We will get out a few more times on the weekend before he, Becky and Don leave for Florida. He is very frustrated with his game. It was pretty cloudy – and cool for August. But, I didn’t mind…no sunscreen and a light jacket is fine with me.
Trying to decide if I want to run some errands or just stay home, take a walk, do some schoolwork. I checked with a friend to see if she wanted to tag along with me, but she has other plans. That zapped my motivation.

Erich, the move to the Poconos, the new pastor at CCUMC are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope all goes well with Jill’s surgeries and wise conversations with Larry occur. Thankful my terrible dream about being in the classroom was just that a terrible dream. Prayers for Ally&David, Julie and Megan. Early morning activities discombobulated my day. Thankful for a good dentist visit. Thank You, Lord.
