Today’s Reflection
There often comes a time in the Christian life when faithful attendance on Sunday morning, singing in the choir, or chairing a committee for an event and participating in outreach is simply not enough for inward significant spiritual growth. There develops a desire for going deeper into an understanding of faith and one’s relationship to God that cannot be satisfied by ordinary church life. Few are as fortunate as I was to be in a church that recognized the need and valued spiritual direction for those who wished to go on that path. The church recognized that not all people would be open to this introspective discipline. Only about 25 percent of any congregation is contemplative or even has an interest in the contemplative or introspective, according to Corinne Ware in her book Discover Your Spiritual Type.

Today’s Scripture
Those who are spiritual discern all things, and they are themselves subject to no one else’s scrutiny.

Prayer for the Week
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and
the glory, forever. Amen.

This is not discussed at my church. I would probably go outside. I am in a small group, but this is not what you speak of.
I would be interested in this. We somewhat do this in our Bible study. We seldom stick with the readings but use the concepts therein as starting points for discusion both personal and denomination based.
Cleaning today. No plans for the weekend though it is to be great weather.
Spiritual direction has made a significant impact on my life. My first spiritual director met me where I was and was a wonderful listener. I eventually “out grew” her. Then, about a year ago, I sensed the desire to pursue a new spiritual director. I met with her yesterday – and it was wonderful. She, too, meets me where I am. We share a similar faith, which I don’t believe I did with my first spiritual director. I believe my current spiritual director is my age, and yesterday – when I told her I was going to begin training to be an end of life doula, she rejoiced with me. She also opened up a bit, telling me she lost her father 6 months ago. She was wonderfully aided by the hospice chaplain in another state – when she went to be with her father in his last few days. I see God’s hand in placing me in her care.
Exams for underclassmen began this morning. I am helping to pass out caps and gowns during the lunch periods today. Very much looking forward to stopping at a nursery or two after work to pick up some flowers.
A gorgeous weekend ahead – full of activities and planting. Summer is here.
I sense a need for caution in beginning spiritual direction. I think Jill’s experience has been excellent and helped her in her decision to become an end of life doula. Not sure what opportunities there are for spiritual direction here where I am.
A good long walk on trails I haven’t seen in a while. Wonderful weather. It should be a great weekend. No big activities planned. The tourists will be out in force. Watched a great show on the Mount Washington Cog Railway. You can still get a steam powered ride to the summit, but biodiesel is now the dominant power..
Remembering those who gave all for this country whether civilian or military. Thank You, Lord.
