New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The God we worship not only fixed the borders of the sea and rested on the Sabbath but also voluntarily chose the confines of the flesh so that every one of its limitations might become the dwelling place and doorway to abundant life. The Infinite was confined in swaddling clothes and subjected to the same path of bridling and taming the wilderness of desire as we are.

His Way is one of disciplined body and soul, of desire restrained only so it may find its deeper and more life-giving goal. This Way opens our souls to grow into the likeness of the Love and Justice, the Courage and Patience, the Wisdom and Radiance in whose image we are made. Such love, in the end, learns to desire only the Good, and is free from hindrance to choose it.

—Robert Corin Morris, “This Far and No Farther,” quoted in A Guide to Prayer for All Who Walk with God, by Rueben P. Job, Norman Shawchuck, & John S. Mogabgab (Upper Room Books, 2013)

Today’s Scripture

We don’t have a high priest who can’t sympathize with our weaknesses but instead one [Jesus] who was tempted in every way that we are, except without sin.

Prayer for the Week

This day, we want to embrace your loving freedom, O God, knowing that only in your freedom can we find an abundant life. Amen.

The humanity of Jesus means to me that God understands.

Indeed, Martin Armstrong, that is what it means to me. That God truly understands the daily struggles as well as the abject suffering of our lives.
I had a wonderful time at the Botanic Garden yesterday. Once a quarter they have an educational program called Botany Walk and Talk. We learned about perennial plants and herbs then had a wonderful luncheon. It was wonderful to get away from h, out of the house and interact with others.
Prayers for Ally and David, may David be released from rehab soon and may he be more stable. May Ally’s disability benefits be approved soon. Prayers for Jill as she and Larry continue to celebrate his ability to remain active by golfing. Prayers for Robert as he continues to work to maintain his church as a contributing member of its community and as he contnues to work to repair his relationship with Erich.

At first I misread the question – instead of reading “humanity” I read “humility”. And then as I considered the question – His humility – how He carried Himself, listened to others, interacted with the “lesser folk” – is my answer. In His humility – He demonstrated justice and wisdom as He glorified His Father.
Received disappointing news that my doubles partner on my new teams fractured her kneecap yesterday. As we head towards playoffs, it is unlikely that she will be able to play. This really throws our team into disarray, as finding a new partner for me will disrupt other doubles teams. She is devastated, as she had high hopes for our playoff success.
