New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

We are creatures who are lost and confused, trapped in the maze of our own little view of the world, and the only way out of that maze is the lifeline God offers us. Yet often we cannot even see that salvation—the solution to our estrangement from the divine—is right under our noses. Prayer opens our eyes.

Prayer illuminates our minds, enabling the love of God to permeate all that we do. This book is truly about life with God: a life in which the awareness and consciousness of God sweep us off our feet the way a lover would. It is about taking on the mind of Christ, a process that is a journey, the journey of prayer.

Today’s Question

How would you describe your life with God? What special places renew your spiritual life? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For,

“Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?”

But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
—1 Corinthians 2:15-16 (NLT)

Prayer for the Week

Holy God, help me to spend time each day focusing on you. Guide me as I try different ways of praying, and help me to grow ever closer to you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Something More

Creating a Life with God is celebrating its 20th anniversary with this revised and updated release. Over the past 20 years, author Daniel Wolpert has inspired many to reflect on a life of prayer and what it means to be intentional about creating daily life with God. In this edition, two new chapters ask how we can use the practice of prayer to engage a world in crisis. Learn more here.

My life with God is a work in process. I’m thankful for God’s grace as I travel with God. 2 places in particular are special places, where I have met God and rested in God: Csmp Sumatanga in the mountains of Alabama, where I grew up going to camp, and Epworth By The Sea, on St. Simon’s Island Georgia. Please pray for both of these special places, as entities that have left the United Methodist Church are trying to take them over. Pray that all involved will do God’s leading.

I grew up in a valley so we were surrounded by mountains. They were the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Now mountains bring me peace and remind me of God’s majesty.

My life with God is complex – because my mind is always thinking and tends to desire logic and push away mystery. I know things in my heart, but battle things in my mind. My heart urges me to embrace mystery and release myself to fully trust. It is my innermost desire. But I have this devilish brain and my human nature is strong. I crave silence and stillness – and this is where I meet Him. I think this is why my craving strengthens as I get older.
I am renewed when sitting with my patient in hospice. I am renewed so much by a cancer support meeting. I am renewed by time spent one on one with a dear friend. These are all holy moments, very holy moments. I am aware of Him blessing these moments.
This work week has been busy and thus, has gone relatively quickly. Of course, one more day to go tomorrow.
Becky, Dad and Don are coming over tomorrow for dinner and cards. One last hurrah around the card table before they head for Florida on Sunday.
