Today’s Reflection
From life as a young child through life with my own young children, the Bible has revealed new and enlightening perspectives to me. Over time, the Bible has become a sort of healthy parental presence in my life; it provides some clear direction and generates some frustration. As any good parent does, the Bible remains stable and tolerates my frustration rather than intrusively trying to fix it. Though other people have imposed their interpretations of the Bible on me, the Bible hasn’t imposed itself. The Bible’s familiar, comforting passages are there for me anytime I choose to go to them. The Bible remains steady, stable, and readily available.

Praise be to you, Lord;
teach me your decrees.

It’s always available, present, steadfast.
Yesterday’s Easter service was lovely. The Bell Choir performed several selections. There is a woman in our church who is a professional singer and she sang from Mozart, just the word Allelula over and over in this beautiful voice. It was amazing. Then Megan and I ran to the movies and saw a very funny movie. After the movie, we were able to do some shopping. as more stores were open than we anticipated. Then we each got takeout and enjoyed it while watching another movie at home. It was a lovely day.
It is what God has given us to know about Him. The Spirit uses it to work in my life, to transform me, to move me closer to Christ-likeness. The Psalms are very special to me. They are my go-to, in virtually every situation…prayer, lament, gratitude.
I opened my book bag today and have spent some time doing schoolwork. Also did some pleasure reading, some napping, some watching sports talking heads going on about the upcoming NBA playoffs. A brilliantly sunny day again. How I wish I could be outdoors enjoying it. But, I remain patient.
Getting together with my friend here in a bit, to go through the next chapter of the book we are reading through and will grab dinner also. The back half of my week is busy with things, so trying to just enjoy the laziness of hanging with the kittens.
Spiritual truth is told in the Bible. Thank You. Lord.
CCUMC’ s Easter Sunrise Service in front of the church in nippy 19 degree weather attracted a couple and their daughter. After the service they joined us for breakfast. It was a blessing.
There were 24 people in church at the 10 am service. Flowers and plants grown from seeds decorated the altar. The spiritual truth that Jesus rose from the dead was remembered. Aleleuias were frequent throughout the service.
Thankful that there are resources to pay bills and take care of us through the month.
Had a longer walk today and will walk tomorrow with Russ.
May God’s wisdom guide us in dealing with gun violence, reproductive healthcare, library books, teaching history, inclusion, climate change, and loving everyone. Thank You, Lord.
Thankful for Julie and Megan’s joyous Easter.
The words of Christ are a tremendous comfort, as are the words of the Hebrew prophets, the Psalms, and Paul’s letters to the churches. The Bible is how we learn about the character of God. But the contradictions sometimes disturb me. I try to remember that the Bible was written by humans.
Though we didn’t make it to worship yesterday, we did online church with Foundry UMC IN Washington DC. Excellent message from their bishop and beautiful hymns and music. We missed being with our church family, but enjoyed the worship at Foundry. I made a cranberry orange coffee cake for brunch. I cooked Easter dinner: pepper jelly m-glazed ham, southern style green beans, homemade macaroni and cheese made in my instant pot, orange pineapple jello salad, and peanut butter pie. Lots of leftovers. David had an appointment to see the PA about his toe, but he sometimes doesn’t get in a hurry when we have to be somewhere. We were going to be too late to keep appointment, so we rescheduled for tomorrow. We went to the library (very enjoyable!) and spent an hour,stopped by the pharmacy, and picked up some takeout for supper.
Thanks to all for your prayers for us. I enjoyed hearing about your day yesterday. Love to all!
