New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

A relationship with God is pure gift, all from God’s side. But we must avail ourselves of this gift. Merton’s daily routine in the cloister underlined his sense of the importance of discipline, of worship, of the sacraments. These are crucial, for in the usual routine of life, we get virtually desensitized to the things of God, tasting of the goods the world has to offer, and, over time, lowering our sights. By the practice of prayer, we prepare for the coming of God. As a gift, it is something for which we can only wait.

—James C. Howell, Servants, Misfits, and Martyrs: Saints and Their Stories (Upper Room Books, 1999)

Prayer for the Week

Loving God, I give you thanks for those who have pointed me to you and your love. I give thanks for those who have challenged me to be your hands and feet in the world around me. Give me the confidence and desire to do the same for others, to be an example of faithfulness. Amen.

Something More

After a significant loss, many people rush to get back a sense of normalcy without allowing themselves time to heal and learn from that loss. Our loving and compassionate God longs to walk with individuals on a transformational journey through loss toward becoming more emotionally and spiritually whole. What Loss Can Teach Us: A Sacred Pathway to Growth and Healing, shows readers that God offers an “on ramp” to the process of tending to their pain. Discover more.

Walks in nature, this reflection, reading the Bible, Bible study, and worship (Communion and All Saints’ Sunday tomorrow) all enable me to receive the gift of God’s presence. A chilly 25 and strong frost this morning.Warming up to 50 with sun and clear skies. Erich ‘s back is healing well. He made one of his excellent apple pies yesterday. Hope this is a blessed weekend for the NEM community , Roger healing well, Julie able to drive, Ally&David making progress with health and finances, Lou at peace. Thank You, Lord.

Committing to time of silence and stillness in the morning, taking in His Word, listening to podcasts that direct me to Him. I must be consistent and intentional.
Thank you for your suggestions, concerns and prayers. I gave Roger his injection last evening and again this morning – and he didn’t even seem to be aware it occurred. So much so that I am not even sure it occurred. But the syringe was empty and there was no dampness on his fur.
What a week! Super encouraged by getting the shot in him last night – I was off to tennis. I summoned good pent up energy and it was an enjoyable match. I played singles, which is not my preference, but I do enjoy the challenge. In the end I lost 10-8 in the match tiebreaker, as close as it could get. But, my opponent was a seasoned singles player and I was just thrilled to have such a competitive match. If I eliminate mental errors, I get the win. But, it’s alright.
My god son’s first high school basketball scrimmage is this afternoon. And then another tennis match following that. So – will be going in lots of different directions today. But, here too, Robert – we are supposed to have a beautiful day…a bit warmer than yours, but still a chilliness to Fall.
Good news, regarding your car, Julie. Another need met.

Reading the Bible and UR Daily Devotional as well as the NEM reflections and these friendly and encouraging comments. And now church as well, God is good.
Prayers of gratitude that all is going well with Roger and Jill. I firmly believe this is God’s plan. He knew what Roger’s future would entail and He purposely sent him to Jill, knowing she was capable and would keep little Roger alive. He is so good to all His creation. Prayers of thankfulness also that Erich’s back is healing and that his small church is thriving despite the lack of pastor. Prayers and thoughts for Ally and David and Lou, may all be well. Prayers for Marti and her faithful staff. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.
