New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Next time you drive [alone], try something different. Don’t turn on any gadgets. Tell God that you intend to use this time to pray, to just be quiet. Then see what happens. Watch the thoughts and feelings that arise. …

When you arrive at your destination, thank God for the time together, whatever has happened.

—Daniel Wolpert, Creating a Life with God: The Call of Ancient Prayer Practices (Upper Room Books, 2003)

Today’s Scripture

Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer.

Prayer for the Week

Our Father* in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
*Use whatever name for God you prefer, such as Creator, Sustainer, etc.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Yes, there are times when prayer is difficult. I like the being quiet while driving “listening” prayer idea and will try it whenever I am driving alone. Thankfully that is quite often. H not understanding the great scam he endured surely is a troublesome problem. Hopefully your threat will do what’s needed. Most certainly the situation needs prayer.
God has always been unseen, somehow I have just accepted that idea, fact. Jesus said what is unseen is more important than what is seen. We know the wind exists, but we can’t see it. So too with air. I think LOVE fits in this category too.
Glad to be learning about Wesley as CCUMC and the UMC try to resolve problems.
Depending on how old you are, where you go to church, and so on, this used to be Reformation Sunday. Hasn’t been so emphasized as of late. Heard lots about Luther. Wesley had his German church connection with the Moravians and the Unity in UMC comes from the United Brethren which has German roots. In a church founded by German immigrants from near where my family comes from they were taught how to sing A Mighty Fortress is Our God in German to honor the founders of the church by their Congregationalist pastor. In Christ there is no East or West, in Him no South or North, but one great fellowship throughout the whole wide earth. Thank You, Lord.

Quiet prayer while driving might cut down on cursing fellow drivers during a necessary commute.
