New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The Jesus Prayer appears to be straightforward. At the most basic level you merely repeat the words “Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have compassion on me.” The words can appear to be little more than a request for Divine Compassion. The prayer is a practice for receiving compassion rather than for self-compassion. But what the words say merely scratches the surface of the power of this compassion practice. We experience the power of the prayer when it moves us from a place of receiving Divine Compassion to a place where we offer compassion to ourselves.

Today’s Scripture

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Good morning, the UR family! It is 6:17 MS time. Jill where are you?

  • Jill Posted August 20, 2020 6:19 am

I think for me, today, it will be living in the present moment. Being attentive to what is occurring in the moment. I am having lunch with a dear friend, the one who came along side me during mom’s diagnosis and subsequent struggle. Our relationship formed out of the cancer support group. I cannot recount all the times she would pray with me while I was either on the way to mom’s or coming home from having been with mom. I continue to ask God to use me in a similar way – assisting someone along a path they would have never chosen. As I rarely experience in any of my other relationships, when I come away from an interaction with this person – it seems I have experienced a very holy moment. Indeed – the two of us were gathered, either in person or by phone, and Christ was in our midst. Thank You, Father – for this person.
Following lunch I have an appointment with my rheumatologist to discuss options moving forward. I always feel that we have a good conversation, that I am heard. I am so grateful for no symptoms while being 2.5 weeks late on my treatment. And, one side effect is gone and the GI issues are lessening. Father, thank You for this relief in many areas and give me wisdom and discernment for the right choice going forward.
Father – thank You for hearing our prayers, for desiring communication and relationship with us. Draw us nearer to You.

Be open hearted, minded, prepared to accept the precious gift of God’s compassion by believing in the reality of God. God loves us and gives us the opportunity to accept or reject God’s love.

Thankful for all of the UR family, may your faith be strong. From God all blessings flow and may you receive them.

Have moved on to a Central Vermont caboose, sadly the model producer’s cupola roof grab iron instructions are wrong, happily I was able to start again and make progress beyond the cupola. Just as in our faith, we make mistakes, and can by the grace of God start again, correction was possible with the model.

Wonderful weather, in the 50s at night and 70s during the day. Thank You, Lord.

I can be observant and recognize His compassion delivered through others.
Prayers and thanks giving for BJ and her checking in today. So good to hear from you You have been missed.
Prayers for Jill today as she meets with her rheumatologist. May they, together, devise a plan forward to address Jill’s symptoms with fewer side effects.
Prayers for Robert and his ability to change course with ease and find new paths forward. A truly mature Christian attitude for me to emulate.
H has already gone to his “friends” as he continues to sleep and shower here only. Nice to have the house to ourselves but it also allows more time for them to ensnare him further in their scam. Changing subjects, Tazzie seems to enjoy his new medicine which is meant to correct his kidney function. He does tend to leave the carrots.
Prayers, thank you and stay well dear UR

Receive, why is it so difficult to receive as compared to give? It could be receiving a compliment, a gift, a thank-you and comes from someone specifically sharing something designed for me. I have noticed my reluctance to be a receptive recipient and have been working on it. Today’s thought reminded me again how important it is to be a cheerful receiver and so, when I was out in the yard I practiced and was a cheerful receiver. I said you are welcome, I am happy to make our yard look neat, thank you and I felt good.
This reminds me of all the gifts God bestow on me everyday. Not only food, shelter, clothing, but the gifts of forgiveness, second chances, love, joy, peace, faithfulness, compassion, etc. All offered, and waiting for me to accept. God would not provide unless I need, so I am learning to accept and feel the goodness of God. May I be quick to turn to God, acknowledge His gifts, and receive.
So good to hear from everyone. I pray for you and your concerns and thank you for your prayers for me. The power of prayer is evident in this UR Family thanks be to God.
