New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Note: This week’s New Every Morning reflections are structured differently to follow the format of our featured title, Pauses for Pentecost, which contains 50 days of reflections based on a scripture theme and followed by a daily practice.

Today is the day of Pentecost! You may want to read through the second chapter of Acts again. On that day the disciples receive God’s power from above. It is a power that enables them to go out and out-live, out-think, and out-love the ancient world. They receive something extra, something new, something they did not have before. They receive power in their hearts. The flames of fire and the sound of wind are just outward signs that the Holy Spirit has been given to them. They receive what all of us desperately need: the Spirit of God filling us and helping us overcome the evil within and around us.

—Trevor Hudson, Pauses for Pentecost: 50 Words for Easter People (Upper Room Books, 2018)

Today’s Scripture

When the day of Pentecost came, [the apostles] were all together in one place.

Prayer for the Week

Holy Spirit,
Turn my life into a deep reservoir from which life-giving streams begin to flow toward others around me.

ZOOM worship wearing red at 10 am followed by a tailgate meeting in the parking lot behind the church. Yes, live worship is being explored, but we aren’t there yet. May the Holy Spirit come to, be with, you. Thank You, Lord.

Good morning, UR family. Our church has started in a person worship. We are considering going back. We have become accustomed to worshipping online with our coffee. I asked Holy Spirit to meet me where I am. Know our UR family is in my prayers and my heart. Have a blessed Sunday.

It was good to be with the body of Believers this morning. Meaningful music – I am still humming it now as I grill up dinner.
My god daughter’s graduation is later this afternoon. Blazing hot…89 right now and the seats are on artificial turf in the school’s stadium. So – probably pushing triple digits.
Yesterday was my nephew’s 40th birthday – and it was very enjoyable. Nice to be back with family, sharing milestones.
“The tour” is on hold as dad’s elbow is bothering him. He has been sitting out the last two weeks – obeying doctor’s orders. We are going to try to play 9 holes this Wednesday when I get out of school.
Got the flowers I had purchased last Sunday planted – yesterday and this morning after church. Still need to fill my front bed and some other spots…will need to do more shopping towards the end of the week.
Happy last week of May to all – I know I am sure ready for summer and all it brings.
Praying for improved health, necessary care and good results that provide the ability to move into the future feeling secure.
