New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The bright and colorful sunflower reminds us of beauty offered without asking for anything in return. . . . Offer acts of kindness as gifts this week without expecting anything in return. Kindness begins at home. Think of your child(ren)’s favorite things, and offer those things this week. Maybe your daughter loves new markers, your son loves to shoot baskets with you, or your family hasn’t had a movie night for a long time. Let go of to-do lists for a minute and offer simple kindness.

Prayer for the Week

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep;
Thy angels watch me through the night,
And keep me safe till morning’s light.

Had quite an afternoon with Erich, a nice car ride, visited and walked on trails at a park near the ocean and another wildlife area further inland, bought and enjoyed blueberry crisp with ice cream. If all goes well another outing today. Temps and humidity have dropped, it’s more comfortable. Worship this morning, we’re back to wearing masks due to perks caused by the Delta variant. Prayers you have a blessed worship time today, your needs are met, and thanks are given for the blessings of the day. Thank You, Lord.

Simple kind acts mean so much. Yesterday I was up early and made blueberry scones for my son and his girlfriend- they surprised me by bringing favorite donuts from a special shop so we both offered kindness to each other. They are going to outdoor worship again with me today which I so enjoy.
Another beautiful day today – windows open and enjoying the respite from the intense heat of last week. Thankful for this and the opportunity to spend time with my son. Today is another day to offer acts of love and I will reach out to a friend I haven’t heard from in awhile.
God’s peace to all of you.

I made stir fry to share with our neighbors last evening. And then they started to talk, so I spent some time listening. She has just been diagnosed with cancer and I am thinking that he will be doing more cooking. I will volunteer meals more often.
Scones sounds great Lou!! and Jill’s food that she shared with her friend!! When I deliver food I can see a breath of happiness as there is food prepared and the recipient can just sit back and enjoy. What joy fills my heart.
Hazy day with smoke in the air but to clear some starting tomorrow. Makes me realize how important fresh air is so that we can breathe.
Wonderful online service about Worship with David’s example through the Psalms. I like the routine of Sunday service to set the tone for the week for my life. I like to replay some of the services during the week, especially the songs. Last week and this they paused to pray for the children returning to school and the teachers. While not a teacher, my prayers are powerful and I intend to offer them often. Thinking of you Jill, may this be a successful year of teaching and learning.
I have thought of the themes this week in Passing it On and how I demonstrate them everytime I am with our grandchildren. Also when our children say/do things the same way I do. last week it was about the work of having a dog. I used to walk the dog after work most days as our children were busy with their school activities or work. I am not sure they are convinced that it would not be a good idea to get a dog, but it was reality from their Mother’s perspective.
This week I will try to again practice pausing before replying. The gift of the Spirit, self-control, is one that I pray for, as well as wisdom and discernment.
I lift you all in prayer for your special needs and thank you for the fellowship of worshiping together here at NEM. May the blessing of our Lord fall afresh on each of us.

Although not a direct act of kindness to me – I was so blessed by this…my friend was returning an Aero-bed to dad – she and her husband used it while in the midst of moving. She called me to ask what flavor of ice cream dad would enjoy from an ice cream stand by his house – she was going to take him a quart along with returning the Aero-bed. That touched me so. Simple thoughtfulness.
Good to be in church this morning. Was able to touch base with a lady who lost her husband about 4 3 months before mom died and then lost her mom about 5 months after mom died. She said she had been thinking about her mom lately. I asked her if she was comfortable with those memories and she said she was. She said her absence is so notable when the family gathers together for a holiday or celebration. I feel like we have been spared that a bit with Covid. Will see how it feels as the holidays approach.
Very comfortable temps here and it was pleasant to do mow and trim the lawn and work in my flowerbeds – ahead of the rain that is supposed to be coming overnight and tomorrow.
The party last night was pleasant. Always grateful to be included. My god son is going to be a freshman in a new school. He is very tall for his age – I hope the transition goes well for him when he begins on Wednesday. He has a few friends from his baseball and basketball teams which he will hang with, I am sure.

Jill, you must get to the Shaker Woods Festival (actual name cuz the area it is in is the Shaker Woods, it is Christmas in the Woods because it is a celebration of Christmas held in the Shaker Woods). They have well over 200 exhibitors. We spent five hours there and still didn’t see everything. They also have a great deal of diversity of items. Hope you can attend.
