New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

One only needs to read the Gospel narratives to see how Jesus valued every person’s story, ordinary stories that sound so contemporary: a widow grieving the loss of her only son; a disturbed man, abandoned by the community, living alone; a woman at a well, her life like shards of a broken jug; a man sick for thirty-eight years, who began to enjoy his sickness and the care of others; a man with honest doubt who needed reassurance.

—Richard L. Morgan, Remembering Your Story: Creating Your Own Spiritual Autobiography (Upper Room Books, 2002)

Today’s Scripture

The woman said, “I know that the Messiah is coming, the one who is called the Christ. When he comes, he will teach everything to us.”

—John 4:25 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love;
I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;
it satisfies my longings as nothing else would do.

    The beginning of John 9 – where the disciples come across a man who has been blind since birth. The disciples ask Christ – who sinned…in effect…causing this blindness. The man or his parents? And, as usual, Christ makes a most unexpected explanation…other-worldly, as He is. Neither, this man was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him. God’s sovereignty and purposes move forward, in a plethora of ways. May He be glorified in all things. A young lady I met at my church when I started there three years ago – this verse…verse 3…had become her life verse. A few years prior, with 3 children under the age of 5, she was diagnosed with MS. She started a blog and this verse was at the top of her blog page. This helped shape my attitude towards my diagnosis, and ultimately mom’s struggle. Oh that God would choose me to reveal his mighty works in some way. I must be faithful to His sovereign purposes. Father, please, provide me the grace to do this.

    I have often played a game with God for how much of my life I give to God and how much I keep. I have never been wealthy, but the story of the rich young ruler resonates with me. Am I willing to give to God whatever I have? This is hard for me. Lord, help me to be willing.
    David is still not sleeping well. He agreed to call his doctor and see what he thinks about prescribing something for sleep. Also, 2 former colleagues and I have decided to start a home care service. There seems to be a need for people who can provide some assistance to folks who need a little extra help. This would provide the flexibility David and I need right now. Please lift this up in prayer. It seems to have promise.
    I pray for our UR family and thank God that we are here to bear each other’s burdens. Know that I lift you up to Lord each day. I pray that we listen for God’ voice and tell our stories when God moves us to do so. Blessings to all!

    So many come to mind, Martha and Mary when Jesus visited. I would be Martha, busy doing the drudge work and missing lif’s joys. The woman at the well, ostracized for reasons beyond her control. So many more they are too many to enumerate.
    Prayers for Jill and her continued learning of technology in order to facilitate online teaching. May this week help all the needed techniques “click.”
    Prayers for Robert and his stories of Korea and Soo Ok, they are lovely, warm and illuminated with sacred love. Thank you for sharing.
    Prayers for Ally and David and their continued struggles with health and employment. May God see them through all.
    Prayers for April and her continued care of the grounds of her plan and her possible replacements .
    The kittens are a handful and I am growing tired of the energy and mischievousness. Tazzie is over the whole upheaval though there seems to be more positive interactions.
    Prayers, thankyou and stay well dear UR

    I’m struggling to find a Bible story that comes close to my faith journey. Widows are often mentioned, widowers are not. I believe God sent me to Korea instead of Vietnam, A Korean church helped me a great deal on my journey, and subsequent churches have helped as well. I know God has helped me with other problems and is ever present.

    Prayers for Ally and David, Jill, Julie and Megan, Marcy, Mary, and ALL THE UR FAMILY. Trust in God and God sees to your needs as God knows best. Thank You, Lord for all You do.
