New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

In the beginning . . . God. Can there be a more disruptive idea? . . .

In a culture that has lost its imagination to believe in God as Spirit, we speak a narrative of the world that begins with the Creator God whose Spirit hovers over the deep. . . .

Into the chaos, God spoke creative beauty. Into the darkness, God spoke light. Into nothingness, God spoke something-ness. The promises made by the Creator who brings this kind of life are worth holding to.

Today’s Question

How often do you ponder God’s wondrous creation of the world? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

When God began to create the heavens and the earth—the earth was without shape or form, it was dark over the deep sea, and God’s wind swept over the waters—God said, “Let there be light.” And so light appeared.
—Genesis 1:1-3 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

Creator God, enable us to move through the chaos into the new creation you alone have promised. Amen. —Prayer by Joy J. Moore

I don’t consider “In the beginning…God” disruptive. I believe that the Bible and science describe how the universe and humankind came to be. Thank You, Lord.
Every walk in the woods, hike in the mountains, visit to community, state, and national parks reminds me of God’s work.
Lord guide us as we strive to undo the effects of human caused damage to the place we call earth. Amen.

      Amen, Robert.

I ponder God’s creation of the world all the time. It is a major focus of my life with him in the respects. First, God declared our world to be “very good” and put humans in a position of responsibility over it. Genesis 1:26. I see this as a stewardship obligation both because we are expressly charged – by God – to do this, and because there is “one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:6. We can see God and his signature, his handprint, throughout nature. Jesus and General Revelation (the revelation given to us in God’s Creation) are the two ways can see God in this life.
Second, we know from the Book of Revelation and from prophets like Isaiah that Earth will still be our home. We will be resurrected bodily and God’s creation will likewise be resurrected with the coming of the New Heavens and the New Earth. He’s making all things new. He’s not wiping out the old earth and replacing it. God will once again walk with us on the resurrected, redeemed Earth, and thereby Heaven and Earth will be made one. (Revelation 21:3; 22:3–4). “God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. . . . His servants will serve him. They will see his face.”
And finally, I ponder God’s creation because we sre all made in God’s image and we are part of his “very good” creation. Yes, the world is fallen, but it will be set right, as will we. This is truly the Good News, and it cannot for me be separated from what I see in the face of every person I see on the street and what I see every time I look outside. This realization is part of what brought brought me to first believe in God twenty-two years ago. Praise you Lord, and bless you!

I don’t ponder it nearly enough. I feel like when I am out of my regular “bubble”…walking familiarly in my neighborhood or local parks – this is when I am more likely to be aware of God’s magnificent creation. In the mountains, at the seashore – this is when I am keenly aware. I have definitely missed my time at the beach during the holidays. No matter the temperature – the salt air smells the same, the gentle tide sounds the same, the birds sound the same, the sky is utterly different and yet familiar.
Had physical therapy today and my person was extremely pleased with how things felt and looked. She always takes her time with me and patiently addresses my questions fully. The workout was gentle. I stopped in to school prior to the appointment, as there was some treasurer stuff to tend to.
Leftovers for dinner and some schoolwork this evening. The past two weeks have gone very fast, and yet it seems like longer since I had my surgery. Time is very weird.
