New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Words of Hope During COVID-19

Author and faculty member of The Academy for Spiritual Formation Ray Buckley remembers a lesson his grandmother taught him using a dreamcatcher: We are connected in all things and strengthened by God—who cannot be pulled or pushed out of shape.

Today’s Reflection

In our search for identity Christ meets us right where we are. In his humanity Jesus also needed to know who he was. But he didn’t look inward, nor did he let others tell him who he was, nor did he look to his achievements to find his sense of identity. Instead, in order to know who he was, Jesus listened to the voice of his Heavenly Parent, trusted that voice, and claimed its truth for his life.

—Trevor Hudson and Stephen D. Bryant, Companions in Christ: The Way of Transforming Discipleship (Upper Room Books, 2006)

Today’s Scripture

I need to be vigilant and keep my eyes on the Author and Perfecter of my faith- for He alone gives me my identity. He alone gifts me with my abilities and talents. He alone has placed me specifically. He alone is my strength. He is my provision and in Him, I find restorative rest and peace. Thank You, Father.
So grateful to hear the news of Ally being able to FaceTime with David. What encouragement for the both of you. Andrea – I am praying that God will soothe this rough spot, that your daughter will come around, and that communication and trust will be restored. This would be challenging when life is normal – even more so in this new normal.

Memories of the past and present, the Bible, devotions and reflections, confession, conversations, and repentance help me with identity. It’s a very needed life long activity, walking the narrow path requires it.
Thankful for ZOOM worship yesterday, memories of special days, yesterday and today.. Prayers for everyone, we are all in need of prayer, thank You, Lord, for the blessings of the day. Help us to stay close to You and know who we are. Do not be afraid, peace, God’s peace, be with you.

In the past, my work both as a student and as an engineer. After I left my job, as a mother, PTA member, etc. Now, I seem to be at a loss. I will seek the answer from where I should have always, God.
Prayers for Jill and Larry during this time of separation and increased sorrow. Today’s UR Devotional was from a woman who lost her husband 3 years ago and still grieving. She mentioned having had therapy.

Most of my life as a youngster and young adult, I looked to other people for my identity, allowing others to define who I am. I was in my mid-twenties when a sister in Christ shared 1 Corinthians 12:27 and this thought: that as a member of the body of Christ, my identity is in Christ and how He sees me. I am not always successful, but since then, I have tried to see myself as our Lord sees me. God has given me various roles: active lay person, wife, daughter, stepmother, sister, therapist. But first I belong to Christ. I am His. I still have to work at this, sometimes reminding myself numerous times a day of Whose I am. I am thankful for God’s grace. David continues to progress, but is experiencing hospital psychosis: combination of lost time due to 12 days on a ventilator, the sensory overload of ICU, having been so sick, residual sedatives still in his system, waking up in a place foreign to him with no idea how he got there, can’t see his loved ones. He has lucid moments, but as the day goes on, his confusion grows. Please pray that he continues to heal and clairity of his mind. I continue to lift up to the Lord all needs mentioned by fellow posters. I pray all have a blessed day.
