New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The significant work of knowing ourselves and God can bring us to a place of humility and compassion. We are the gardeners of the tree of our soul. No other person can increase the size and depth of the circle in which our tree must grow. We must do it. Through the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we can fill that space with the soil of humility and establish the roots of compassion.

—Christopher Maricle, Deeply Rooted: Knowing Self, Growing in God (Upper Room Books, 2016)

I try to be compassionate to others because I never know what their story is or what they are going through. I try to remember that it is not about me when they might be short on patience.
Yesterday was grocery day with h along to get his own. This is always a challenging endeavor for me. Afterward Megan and I took the dog for walk. This short time away from h was a well needed respite. Today is his eye doctor appointment which should be interesting. He has a tendency to ask doctors inappropriate questions. They often are speechless and I jump in to rescue them. It’s also raining pretty steady here.
