New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

It is humbling to recognize the gift of Christ. It is humbling to acknowledge that God came to us and lived in a body just like ours. When we choose to be present and connect with the gift of the body that we have been given, we can gain an appreciation for the body of Christ and the richness of Advent. If we choose to embody this season of waiting, we are honoring and sharing the ultimate gift we have received as Christians, the Incarnation and life of Christ.

Today’s Question

When you think about God coming to earth as a baby, what posture does that inspire in you? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.
—John 1:14 (NLT)

Prayer for the Week

Creator God, thank you for creating my whole self. Help me
to continue to slow down and hope, be mindful and present,
and use my body to draw closer to you on the journey this
Advent. Make me a wise one who seeks you always. Amen.

Adoring posture, bent down, curious, inquisitive, caring, concerned, loving, amazed. God allowed, invited common people, shepherds to the arrival of God’s Son in a setting that shepherds would have found very familiar. Later the wise men found him in a house.
Possible patches of black ice this morning after yesterday’s rain and now freezing temperatures.
Mostly clear skies, a few clouds, and the sun is coming up. It’s December 1st. Six years ago I went to the hospital with a heart attack, thankful that I survived. The Advent calendar count down to Christmas begins. Continued prayers and blessings as we celebrate the coming of the Lord. Thank You, Lord.

I am very thankful to the Lord that you are now healthy and active. I cherish your insights and am a much better Christian and further on my spiritual journey from knowing you Robert. God bless you with many more health filled years.

OK I’m stumped by “posture” being the question. Other than agreeing with Robert’s one of submission on bended knee. But what the passage inspires in me is awe and humility and thankfulness. God gave to us the same type of clay vessel that he bestowed on his only son. We get the same outward shell as the divine himself. That is truly awe inspiring and humbling at the same time.
Yesterday was a busy day, morning Bible study with the blind leading the blind as we women met sans the minister. Afternoon phone therapy where we decided to have Megan join the next session to talk about the dog issue. Even my therapist thinks it is a bad decision on Megan’s part. My therapist has a male lab which is what Megan is getting so she knows what the issues are. Then in the evening Megan and I had haircuts. Whew, was I exhausted. We can begin giving the kitties their Advent calendar treats and toys. They’re not spoiled, nah, not at all.

I hope a humbling posture, as were the shepherds who were first told by angels of Jesus’ arrival. I hope there is wonder at the miracle of Jesus’ birth; that the miracle and the wonder never become rote. Glad to know I was not the only one perplexed by yesterday’s question. I’m still pondering on it. David moved to the in-house rehab unit of the hospital. His confusion has cleared up and he has promised to work hard in therapy. We are praying he’s home by Christmas.
Robert, prayers for your friend in liver failure and for the little boy who had heart surgery. prayers for your church as you move forward with a lay servant model. Julie, prayers regarding Megan getting the dog, that she will respect your wishes and that the plan you and your therapist have developed helps. Jill, prayers as you do PT and for your busy rest of school year. I pray for your teachers union as you advocate for yourselves and your students, for a safe environment conducive to learning.
Praying as we wait during this Advent, we wait with wonder. Blessings to all.
