New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

[Saint] Francis [of Assisi] was no half-hearted, lukewarm, casual, tepid, or fair-weather disciple. He made following Jesus his “highest aim” with “all the desire of his soul.” He was consumed with the words and teaching of Jesus.

Francis wanted everyone to see, in their own time and place, what the love of God looks like and the extent to which God would bend to restore human dignity. The love of God, for Francis, looked like a baby.

Today’s Question

How do you prepare your heart for the Christ child’s birth? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
—Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

Prayer for the Week

Surprising God, thank you for choosing to be with us as a child who needs our care and tenderness in an often harsh world. Thank you for your humble beginnings, showing us that we don’t need to look too high or too far to find your presence in the ordinary, the humble, the poor, or the beautiful. Thank you that your love reaches us again and again. Amen.

In Bible Study we have been examining the Lectionary readings for each week. The readings and our pastor’s explanation of the meaning of each has prepared me for the Christ child’s birth.
Megan and i had a wonderful Christmas together. We had already “exchanged” our big gifts as they were Megan providing some of the cost of an online purchase of mine and I bought Megan her usual Book of the Month yearly subscription. We exchanged stockings and Megan got me items that you put the cats paw print and picture in. We then made lasagna for dinner.
