New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Words of Hope during COVID-19

Junius Dotson, author of Soul Reset: Breakdown, Breakthrough, and the Journey to Wholeness, reflects on this question and offers encouragement from Psalm 23.

Today’s Reflection

In the prayer that Jesus teaches his disciples, he invites them to ask for daily bread. This request points us toward our utter dependence on God for sustaining our lives. This phrase emphasizes God’s provision—God offers us what we really need on a daily basis.

What are those specific things that we honestly need right now? To ask for these things is what beloved children do naturally when they turn to the one they call Father.

—Trevor Hudson, Pauses for Lent: 40 Words for 40 Days (Upper Room Books, 2015)

“Praise God and just thank Him for His mercy and amazing grace.” Good morning the UR family! II Chronicles 7:14 (kjv) reads, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” UR family, Jesus said, He will never leave us or forsake us. God is a good God and He never changes. I love y’all and have a blessed day.

Last week in our small group tele-discussion on II Corinthians 8 – somehow we got onto this part of the Lord’s prayer – trusting Him for our daily bread. I think it was regarding how people are hoarding food, and how we should trust that He will provide what is needed for the day. The discussion then turned to how it is quite likely that this isn’t just speaking to physical food. But to rely on Him for daily sustenance to face waves, storms, mountains of the day which we may see lasting beyond the day. Just trust Him for the day.
My morning time is where I begin. It almost seems though, during this past week – with having so much more time – I have been scattered, less focused. I am going to try to settle into a more structured routine overall – with having to be available in on-line sessions to my students – and get my morning more regimented.
Walked with dad yesterday afternoon. He seems to be a little more settled amidst the isolation. Our governor issued a “stay at home” edict yesterday – which still permits ability to get outside and exercise, while social distancing, and the ability to go to grocery stores to refurbish needed supplies. Just trying to get people to take this seriously.

Continued prayers for this coronavirus as it is spreading throughout the U.S. Pray for peace and be safe. Philippians 4:8ays, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”(kjv) Pray for the sick and shut-ins!

Thankful for a very successful ZOOM worship time Sunday morning. There were 30 people. Face timed with my daughter. email contacts all doing well. The government, federal, state, and local, are addressing the situation. Wish it had started earlier and was a bit more people oriented. Only God is perfect. Prayers for those who are sick (yes indeed Bj), those caring for them and all support staff. prayers for those who are helping others beyond the medical field. Lord, Your guidance is very much needed and we are thankful for Your help. This certainly is a Lent to remember. God You are with us always. Thank You, Lord.

This group helps me feel connected to a faith family and their words and insights help me grow as a Christian and in my faith. My morning time is my time with the Lord and with the Bible.
Prayers for Jill and Larry. May Jill reolve her tech issues so she may teach her students. Good to hear Larry is doing better
Prayers for Robert, may he remainsafe from the coronavirus. May he and his church continue to worship together.
Prayers for BJ, may she and her mother remain safe from the coronavirus. Thank you for the uplifting Bible verses. I love you also and am so glad to “hear” you voice once again.
Prayers for healing for Rick, prayers for Andrea and her family and their creativity in staying connected, prayers for April and her garden and prayers for Lou and her children and their school uncertainity.
H continues to eat every meal “out.” He also goes shopping every day. I am so frightened he is putting Megan and I at risk. I disinfect after him but fear this may not be enough. He fails to take this threat seriously and has never cared for other’s safety over his own needs. Megan and I stayed in and will do so next Sunday as well.
    Prayers and thank you UR

Thank you BJ- yes God is a Good God and He never changes – we must trust and hope amid all of this uncertainty. I too watched out service online and connected with others in my church community to check in. One particular friend who lives alone asked if I might have a daily contact with her so that she has a social contact to look forward to now that she is working from home. I certainly agreed and I think it has been helpful. Many people checking in with one another – bringing us all together I hope.
My youngest had to return to NYC as the school was closing the dorms and belongings needed to be removed – timing I think was bad and I did not agree with that decision on the schools part to have kids who were away for spring break to return, but my daughter wanted to collect her things and so we arranged for that to happen – I am just relieved that she is back and is settling into being here until sometime hopefully school starts again- likely in the fall- or at least that is what we are hoping for. One day at a time – we are all in Gods hands and must trust in God and his great mercy.
Prayers of safety and protection for all of my friends here – God loves us and will never leave us. He will see us through. Have faith and believe.

How are you creating daily life with God during these times of uncertainty and isolation? I am doing what I always do, online with several sites including this one in the morning and readings in the evening. A suggestion was that when washing our hands for 20 seconds we could also say a 20 second prayer. I have a couple of breath prayers that I feel will work well for this and tie it in with a normal habit.
So glad to hear that your daughter is home Lou. Bless you for being in daily contact with your friend. We have neighbors in similar situations, so I text every few days.
Today I am making bread to go with our dinner. Maybe the day’s theme prompted me. We love the smell of fresh bread in the house:))
I echo the prayers others have posted and rejoice that Our Lord is with us through problems. Stay safe dear UR family.
