New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Today is a great day to create a new habit of hopefulness. Recognize that you are aging in a world that is obsessed with youth. Commercials and news pundits assault you with negative thoughts about aging. One way to confront that reality is to become more aware of the time you spend watching television or scrolling through social media posts.

—Missy Buchanan, From Dry Bones to Living Hope: Embracing God’s Faithfulness in Late Life (Upper Room Books, 2021)

Today’s Question

Ask yourself some hard questions about your media consumption. While watching news shows or reading posts on social media, do you become agitated or fearful? Can you sense your heart rate increasing when a friend posts something that directly opposes your opinion? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

You, O Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

—Psalm 3:3 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.*
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

There are few social media outlets I just troll. I have specific sites on facebook I keep up with but they are related to Raynaud’s and Tonkinese kitties. That is all I access and they are informative (Raynaud’s) and restorative (kitties).
The furnace is in and working and h is angry that I have told him not to touch it and I know he will defy my insistence that I will now take of it. My doctor appointment is this afternoon, so hopefully the process to get the hernia operation will begin. I have pain and discomfort as well as a foul tast in my mouth and nausea. I think the latter may be acid refex due to all the stress.
Prayers for David’s PSA increase and possible ramifications and Ally’s health and finances. Prayers for Roger and Jill, I pray that the vet was able to correctly diagnosis and treat the stomach issue. Prayers for Robert and Erich and their continued counseling, through which may Erich learn that he and only he is the reason for his inability to find work. Prayers for Marti and her staff. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

I rarely watch the news, other than to catch the weather and my time on social media is fairly limited, especially during the school year. My biggest reaction would be a roll of the eyes if I saw an opposing opinion. I rarely respond at all, and certainly would not respond in a negative, combative way. My time is too valuable to waste on such nonsense.
My friend was masterful with getting Roger in the carrier. She did her regular greeting with him – the eskimo nose kiss thing. He was a bit restrained because of the sedative. A few minutes later she tried to pick him up and he hissed at her. So, she grabbed a blanket – threw it over him – and while I was holding the crate upright – she shoved him in. She told me it would be quick and she was. He wasn’t as vocal as usual in the car, but still was crying. Thankfully, we got called in to see the vet within about 5 minutes of arrival. It was good we stayed in our cars, instead of being in the waiting room with monstrous dogs. The vet found nothing remarkable upon the exam. Waiting for the blood and urine test results, as well as the x-rays. I would not be surprised if it is pancreatitis, because that can lead to diabetes – and his litter box would concur that could be a possibility. I had to put my previous cat down due to diabetes. But he had advanced quite a bit. I was able to bring him home and we were both exhausted. He must have forgiven me – because he crawled under the sheet last night in bed with me. He was ravenous this morning, because he was not allowed to eat last night.
My brother-in-law is coming by late this afternoon to look at my garage door. All of a sudden, expenses are mounting up…replaced my windshield (had I mentioned this?), the vet bill…steep because his doctor vet is at a pet hospital and now potentially a new garage door opener. I am grateful to be able to handle all these costs.
Praying for Julie, that the appropriate medical attention will be handled in an expedient manner, so that legal matters can remain on a good timeline. Praying, as well, for Robert and Erich and future planning.
