New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

It’s safe to assume Mary had no previous angel sightings [before Gabriel’s announcement that she would bear the Messiah]. Luke does not comment on her response to the angel’s presence but to the angel’s greeting, “The Lord is with you” (1:28). . . . Gabriel does not tell her that she needs to go somewhere to find God or that she has to pray so often for so many days to experience God. The angel simply proclaims God’s presence in Mary’s life, even in Nazareth. This angelic salutation perplexes Mary, and she ponders these words.

Today’s Question

How do you think you might feel if an angel suddenly entered your home? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
—Luke 1:26-29 (NRSV)

Are we not to assume everyone who enters our home is an angel or is potentially an angel? I know this is in the Bible but I do not know where exactly. I believe Jesus spoke these words.
I sent my resume to the church member. She said they just filled 2 such positions but that they hire often as many people quit. I am praying this is God’s will, that the time is not quite right, though it would relieve me of a great deal of anxiety. I know they do hire for this position often as my church friend has said this many times. She has even shared in the short time that I have attended this church that they were hiring at that time. So please continue to pray with and for me, that this works out in the end. I looked at the list of benefits and I would have very good health insurance.
Prayers for Ally, David and Jeremy. Prayers for the anxiety that Ally is dealing with between David’s PSA values and Jeremy’s urinary blockage. May God be with her and sustain her. Prayers for Jill and Roger, may the new insulin dosage and the correct administration time help control the diabetes. Prayers for Robert and Erich and Erich’s uncertain future. May Erich take responsibility and action for his future success. Prayers for Marti and her staff.
Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

Finding the right job is a very big task, many jobs offered here in the Mount Washington Valley are offered again and again, even when there is no Covid. They do not pay well, are essential for hospitality, but are monotonous, easy burn out jobs. Customer service is among them. In your case , Julie, it might lead to something better since you have skills far beyond what is needed.
Yes, there’s a lot Erich needs to do to advance his career. Finding a single family home will allow him to move forward. In this economy and housing market that is a big challenge.
The roads are clearing, snow is turning to rain. Our first wintry weather of the 2012-2022 winter. Blessings to you all.

If an angel entered my home, I think I would be flabbergasted and as utterly perplexed as Mary. The writer of Hebrews exhorts us to show hospitality to the stranger, as we may be entertaining an angel unaware. I hope I would be gracious and listen with open ears and heart.
David told me this morning that though he is anxious, that this time tomorrow we should have some answers and then we can deal with whatever is coming. But good news on Jeremy. I spoke with Dr. Valerie this morning, who said he is much better. She wants to keep him a couple more days because he pulled his catheter out last night. I think that in itself means he’s feeling better. We are very thankful. Pray we can find a way to pay the bill.
Jill, prayers continue for Roger to be restored to health and for Larry , Becky, and her family as they adjust to new situation. Julie, praying you continue to recover well and and get some rest. Praying also that home can be peaceful and legal issues work out. Also praying for your job opportunity. Robert, praying for Erich, that he can feel peace about his future and he will move forward in his career. Pray that trust continues to build in your relationship.
I pray we all stay safe in the face of the new variant, and for our children in the face of the dangers they encounter. The latest school shooting in Michigan is the32nd since August 1. I pray for those who face hate and injustice. I pray for peace in this holy season of waiting. Blessings to all.

This question – I can’t even fathom it. I suppose I would be face down on the floor, scared, humbled, submitted. Yes, we never know when angels are in our midst.
A long day at school, as it is interim pick-up (similar to conferences). Roger wasn’t quite up to par yesterday – maybe an adjustment to the new dosage. Hated to leave him for 12+ hours today, and also not great for his food intake and subsequent insulin – but I will hurry home at 7:30.
Only a few conferences scheduled this evening, so hoping to get a lot of school work tended to.
Dad had someone through his place yesterday and two others today. He is hoping the prospective buyers get into a bidding war.
Julie – I am praying for your job situation, as well as your day to day living and recovery. Ally – sounds like David is in an ok spot as far as receiving the number tomorrow. May God be with you both. And Robert – may God grant you wisdom, ongoing patience and discernment as you continue to guide Erich.
