New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

During a season of profound depression and discouragement, Luther wrote his most famous hymn, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” which picks up on themes in Psalm 46. It’s not that God makes everything smooth and easy. But God is “a bulwark… our helper amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.” …

We don’t defeat evil by trying hard or thinking right thoughts. … And why can we be bold and confident? We have “the right man on our side … Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he … He must win the battle.” Ours is to follow, join, and be caught up in the wake of what he is doing.

Be strong and courageous for I your Lord will be with you and I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Things are much better now that h is sleeping. I can only give him three quarters of the normal dose of melatonin or he sleeps so soundly he wets the bed. But both his dementiaa and Parkinson’s symptoms have improved greatly. Yesterday was the caregivers support group I attend once a month. I was the only one who showed up, so I talked with the people who work at the facility and they gave me the names of care groups that are good quality as well as some steps to take to ensure our money is safe in the future from the scammers. The Office of Aging has called me to tell me that they are proceeding with prosecuting the people who took advantaage of h and may possibly be able to recover some of the funds.

In re: to yesterday’s hymn, How Great Thou Art: like Jill, I do hope there will be relationships continued with loved ones. How I long to see my mama and daddy, my grandparents, dear aunts and uncles. Friends. Fur babies. Dear friends. Never ending joy that we will never be separated again. Until that time, our loved ones in the cloud of witnesses cheer us on. I’m not bad fond of How Great Thou Art as I am some other hymns, but it does contain some beautiful imagery.
Romans 8 is a favorite scripture. In it, Paul reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God, or from Jesus. And even we can’t pray as we ought, we have a helper on the Holy Spirit, who intercedes for us.
I love many hymns and find comfort and encouragement in them all. Hard to pick just one. If I had to pick only one, it would be Be Thou My Vision. The poetry combined with the beautiful melody move me every time I sing it.
Julie, good news that the prosecution is moving forward.

Finally back to New Every Morning! Computer issues, passwords, updating email addresses, signing in, paying bills, and adjusting to the replacement computer have kept me busy, sometimes frustrated, but ever so slowly successful. Thank You, Lord.
Picking the one hymn that keeps me going is impossible. There are many and it depends how I’m feeling. Thankfully there are hymns for all seasons. The two mentioned are among the sustainers.
So glad there are positive developments in h’s care, they help him and caregiver Julie . Having stolen funds returned is a blessing. Hope David is home and doing well. His recovery is a blessing. May Ally be lifted up from her depression. Prayers for all caregivers and care recipients.
Back from Bretton Woods area, skiing and snowshoeing in wonderful weather, more snow expected next week. Sap being boiled at a sugar house. 40 Days with the Messiah continues. Lenten blessings to you all.
