New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

In this moment God is involved in the minutiae of human experience: God is loving people and influencing the evil toward goodness. God is protecting aliens and strangers. God is taking the sides of orphans and widows and is squashing the wicked exploiters.

Ray Buckley, “Where We Bury Our Umbilical Cord,” in The Upper Room Disciplines 2024 (Upper Room Books, 2023)

Today’s Scripture

He gives a helping hand to everyone who falls.
The Lord loves good people and looks after strangers.

In what ways do you see God “involved in the minutiae” of life? In the making of applesauce God was there. There was a sense of the Spirit as the index card indicating what had been produced was written. I firmly believe God is ever present, sometimes allowing us to recognize Him. Thank You, Lord.

When I am stressed and remember to stop and breathe, I feel God in every breath. The minutiae of lungs bringing on air and expelling CO2, but how important each breath is to life. Not only physical life, but all of living as a child of God.
Breathe on me breath of life
    Fill me with life anew
That I might live as Thou would live
And do what Thou would do

I see God in the minutia of my students finding a glimmer of recovery and hope. This quote from Sister Julienne on Call The Midwife:
“ “God isn’t in the event. He is in the response to the event. In the love that is shown and the care that is given.”. Not exactly about minutia, but it reminds me that God is working when God’s work is hard for me to see.
Robert, it’s cider season in Georgia. I love apples. April, I love that hymn. Thank you for sharing.
