Today’s Reflection
David is an outlier. While the Israelites need armor, David needs five stones, a slingshot, and his faith in God. David’s … wise response is, “I cannot walk with these” (1 Sam. 17:39). David knows himself well enough to know that Saul’s armor is not his best defense. He trusts an internal prompting of the Spirit and his own self-knowledge above what appears to be the best strategy according to the experts around him. He removes the armor, and in doing so, he removes the burden of what others think he needs. David instead relies on what he knows will allow him to prevail over Goliath.

Reading The UR Disciplines today, writer Pershey refers to John 20:31 and writes that Jesus is enough. We don’t need the Nag Hammadi gospels. David didn’t need armor. God’s grace is sufficient. Thank you Jesus!
I have learned to lean on the Lord. He will provide strength, guidance and support.
Yesterday I went to the Pittsburgh Botanical Garden for the quarterly Walk and Talk. The daffodils are blooming but the deer ate many of the tulips. The dogwoods will bloom next week and everything is green and coming to life. The Japanese Cherry trees are done but the Oriental Garden was alive with leaves sprouting and many young visitors from various schools. We always have a scumptious lunch after we walk in the garden and learn from the director of education and a local celebrity gardening expert and yesterday was no exception. The chefs made a vegetarian feast and used fresh seasonal produce. I spoke to the woman who was sitting at the same table I was and had a lovely conversation. We had beautiful weather and all in all it was a spendid day.
I would say that many things have “come alive” in the past year + with our study of Luke. Familiar passages, but nuances missed or overlooked. Coupling Luke with the other Gospel narratives in study has been eye opening to me.
Like Julie, the weather here has been stupendous. The kittens remain glued to the open windows – taking in the sights, sounds and gentle breeze. I did some work in my yard today, being careful to not over tax.
Yesterday spent the day with Becky, Don and Dad. More cards and then pizza for dinner. We went to my great nephew’s lacrosse game – and it was like a summer evening – so warm. And the team won, for the first time this season.
The Bible has revealed to me truth about who Christ is and what He came to do. It reveals that God’s people are to do Justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. It reveals to me that God does new things Thank You Lord for new things.
David says his toe is better, but he won’t let me see it. He’s been discharged from home health and needs a lot of encouragement keep moving. He is coke so far and I don’t want him to go backwards. Thankful a situation we had worked out.
Julie, The azaleas are coming out here in middle Georgia. South Georgia had pretty severe storms yesterday with some damage. We were under a tornado watch, but had no severe storms. Typical April in the south.
Jill, Patsy has been glued to the windows too. She enjoys watching the squirrels. Gail, thank you for the reminder that God’s Grace is sufficient.
