New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Prayer, worship, practicing the presence of God—these are things that will keep us close to God when we start to feel overwhelmed at the work set before us. Jesus has shown us how to lead and how to care for our souls. He has shown us how to stay close to God, even as he gathered a new community and taught and healed and traveled. Let’s lean on Jesus as we go about our lives and ministries and remember that the church doesn’t live on our strength alone; it lives only by the power of God. It’s not all on us! We can’t ruin what God has established, so let’s give ourselves a break and remember the unforced rhythms of grace.

Today’s Scripture

[The Lord] said to me, “My grace is enough for you, because power is made perfect in weakness.” So I’ll gladly spend my time bragging about my weaknesses so that Christ’s power can rest on me.
—2 Corinthians 12:9 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

Something More

What if the contradictions within the Old Testament weren’t problems to be resolved but rather essential to its deepest meaning? In Sacred Tension, biblical scholar William P. Brown invites us to consider the Old Testament as a wide-ranging dialogue in conversation with itself and with us.

The ability to live in the moment and have faith in the Lord that it will all work out for the best. Thank you Lord.

Yesterday’s reading really resonated, as I feel overwhelmed in most areas of my life. I worry and I fret. Mostly about how to balance caring for David and take care of my work responsibilities. I am very concerned about the future of all of us. Leaning on Jesus would give me the grace to not beat myself up when I make mistakes and overthink.
