Today’s Reflection
Note: This week’s New Every Morning reflections are structured differently to follow the format of our featured title, Rally: Communal Prayers for Lovers of Jesus and Justice, which addresses issues of social justice through reflection and over 50 call-and-response prayers known as litanies.
We are not saved, valued, or significant because of what we do. Yes, justice work is commanded by scripture, but so is rest so that we can heal and connect with the Most High God and one another. Sabbath is a divine pause that allows us to be refreshed by the ruach (spirit) to impact our world not through striving and busyness but through the transforming power of justice, love, and compassion.

Today’s Question
How can embracing rest strengthen your ability to engage in justice work? Join the conversation.
Today’s Scripture
[Jesus said,] “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
—Matthew 11:28 (NRSVUE)
Prayer for the Week
ELDER: Ago! [Listen!] Yahweh, help us to know that our value comes not from our activity but from our identity, which is rooted in you.
Help us not to overwork to fill a void in our identity but to root our identity in you.
ALL: Ame! [We are listening!] Yahweh, we need your help. Renew our minds so that we value relationships more than we value profit.
ELDER: Ago! [Listen!] Yahweh, we need your ruach (spirit) to dwell in us to give us the wisdom to pause.
Help us to see the divinity in rest.
Help us to see the divinity in community.
Help us to see the divinity in our neighbors and ourselves.
ALL: Ame! [We are listening!] With the help of Yahweh and God’s Spirit, we will pause to take care of our bodies, hearts, and minds.

Even God rested. We are made to need rest, sleep. Amazingly this period of rest enanles us to carry on. with the tasks God has set before us. Thank You, Lord.
The Sabbath (Day of Rest) is done in order to Glorify GOD. This time is dedicated.
I have found such comfort in Isaiah 30:15 – “In returning and rest you shall be saved. In quietness and trust shall be your strength.” Yes, self care is HUGE. Look at Christ – stepping away to be alone with His Father. His pace of healing, being with…humaning…took its toll on Him (as it does us). We must be properly fueled to do kingdom work.
Julie – I am grateful you continue with therapy, as well as church. His love – so unfathomable. Especially when suffering persists. Yet – He is acquainted with grief and suffering. I hope you can be encouraged by those truths – and holding to the hope of eternity – where every tear is wiped dry and I am thinking erased from our memory. No more pain, no more sorrow.
The ice here was pretty intense for a few hours – mostly while I was at the birthday dinner. My god son’s basketball game started 1/2 hour later than I thought – so I was able to get to it. A touch late, but there. He had a very good game, was named player of the game. I am so glad I made it safely.
Tried to visit my hospice patient after church – but he was in too much pain and sent me away. I left a strawberry milkshake in his freezer – as his birthday gift.
Home with The Kittens the rest of the day…making sure everything is in place for while I am gone, as well as when I return from school. Grateful for this time to get everything in order.
Ally – prayers for you, David and Jeremy. I hope the medical team can get at the root of David’s issues and get a plan in place quickly.
