New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

When you fight, you have to do it your way. Life has prepared you for the things you are facing right now. Like David, while you may not have faced this particular battle before, you’ve faced some things in your past. You have a good track record, and you’ve learned how to walk with God along your journey. Don’t ever try to show up as someone else; God has called you just as you are.

—Gabby Cudjoe-Wilkes, “An On-Time God,” in The Upper Room Disciplines 2024: A Book of Daily Devotions (Upper Room Books, 2023)

Today’s Question

How has God prepared you for the battles you face today? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

David said, “The Lord, who saved me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will save me from the hand of this Philistine.” So Saul said to David, “Go, and may the Lord be with you!”
—1 Samuel 17:37 (NRSVUE)

Prayer for the Week

God, give me the boldness to stand up to oppression, trouble, and affliction. I ask that you strengthen me for those battles: show me my past wins, reveal to me my best tools, remind me who and what I am fighting for, and protect me along the way. Amen. Something More

Psalms for Black Lives, written by pastors Gabby Cudjoe-Wilkes and Andrew Wilkes, is a collection of thirty devotions, each containing a psalm, a reflection, and an invitation for the reader to develop a justice imagination. It is the perfect resource to add to your bookshelf as we celebrate the Juneteenth holiday this week. May we join with God and with each other in the holy work of pursuing justice, undoing structural racism, and building a society that truly values Black lives. Learn more here.

Helping my son shouldn’t be a battle, it may seem like one, but it really isn’t. Some very tough decisions and actions are on the horizon. Thankful that thee is help. Dealing with mental illness is hard, it’s like a struggle with the unseen. Faith in God and that there will be a positive outcome urge me cautiously forward. Thank You, Lord.

My entire life has been a struggle for survival. Now I can face many things calmly and rationally. It has taken much pain, growth and therapy to reach this place in my life.
