New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

In contrast to reading for information, the object is not to cover as much as possible as quickly as possible; reading for formation avoids quantifying the amount of reading in any sort of way. You are concerned with quality of reading, not quantity. You may find yourself in a “holding pattern” on just one sentence or one paragraph or perhaps as much as a whole page, but probably never more than that. You are not concerned with getting through the book. So what if it takes you a year, two years, five years to get through the book? That is not the point. The point is meeting God in the text.

Scripture is certainly important in helping faith formation, but I feel nudges in church at choir practice and during worship that make me feel God’s presence. I believe that just as God made us all different , we all experience God’s presence in different ways. They are all important and perhaps God personalizes them for each of us. God most certainly is capable of that. Thank You, Lord.

The Psalms mostly – they usher me into His Presence. I have been meditating daily on Psalm 63 and Psalm 111. Trying to get back to memorization of Psalms – these are my first two as I start anew.
After such a beautiful Fall – the winter temps seem to be harsh. They are below normal and the wind just makes them more intense. I had raked up my yard and driveway before the rain hit Wednesday. But, a new blanket of yellow leaves is now covering them again – and it just seems to cold to rake.
Dad, Becky, Don and I will be trying Top Golf today – with Becky’s boys and their wives. They had gotten dad and I gift cards five years ago – the first Christmas after mom passed – so that the boys could spend time with dad. Well, Covid hit, one of my nephews tore his ACL and dad is away much of the winter now. Today – all of us had time on our calendars, so we will give it a try.
