New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Pausing from the busyness of our lives and recognizing the tender humanity of another restores us to our own humanity. The pulse of care and connection within us resuscitates. Our hearts, normally dulled by the day’s burdens, beat freely with love. And the ensuing kindness we extend to others has the power to resuscitate their spirits as well. For compassion not only restores the heart of our own humanity; its healing care makes human once more the heart of another grown hard and cold.

I’m not sure if my spiritual practices do this. I have been taught from early childhood to care for others and that is certainly a part of who I am. I would say that lesson was taught by my parents.
Thank You, Lord for the resources that make compassion possible.

Reading the Bible, especially the stories about and by Jesus. He was so kind to everyone and in his stories, he spoke highly of those who were kind and selfless. I try to emulate the Lord every day by being kind to everyone and especially those in the service industry.

Listening for God’s voice and asking God to break my heart for others, reading what God has to say to us in scripture about caring for others, taking holy communion, which gets my heart right when it feels hard and I am frustrated about the state of the world. Lord, give us hearts of compassion and help us to practice empathy. My depression is a bit better today. David almost fell last night and almost turned his chair over. He sees his doctor Wednesday. Thank you for your prayers.

Prayer and listening for God’s voice resuscitates the pulse of care within me for others. Ally, so many prayers of comfort and concern for you and David. Prayers for all NEM family members. When I pray for you, in thought or writing, I feel God touch you. And God touches me too, for we are all children of God. As family, we connect with each other through the Holy Spirit, who God has sent to be with us. Through prayer, texts, email, hugs, virtual or physical….God wants us to care for each other.
The hot days of summer are here. I am mindful to give thanks for air conditioning and that our church opens its doors as a cooling shelter. We worked in the church yards on Saturday to plant daisies and pull weeds so that others may feel welcome to open the door of our church under the banner “All means All” and walk in.
Blessings dear brothers and sisters as we journey forward….our Heavenly Shepherd is right there beside us and we shall not want, Psalm 23.
