New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today's Reflection

SCRIPTURE HOLDS metaphor, parable, and paradox to add depth to our stories and to enlarge our view of who God is and what God is doing in the world. This is not complexity for complexity’s sake; the reality of God is greater than what we as humans can understand. Metaphor, parable, and paradox acknowledge our human limitations while at the same time offering us a means of transcending them.

—Michael E. Williams, Spoken into Being: Divine Encounters Through Story (Upper Room Books, 2017)

Today's Question

Which scripture passages enlarge your view of God?

Today's Scripture

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
—Isaiah 55:8-9 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

I love to tell the story
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest.
