A Generous God
Today's Reflection
WE ARE CREATED to be generous. That makes sense to those who believe that we are indeed created in the image of a generous God. … Acting generously feels good and right. And when we act generously, we discover that God’s world is a world of more than enough—abundance.
The practices of prayer, gratitude, and generosity open us to seeing and loving the people and the world that God so loves. These practices nurture the seeds of a compassionate and a missional way of life.
—Rebecca Dwight Bruff, Loving the World with God: Fourth Day Living (Upper Room Books, 2014)
Today's Question
How can gratitude for God’s generosity nurture seeds of compassion in your life?
Today's Scripture
“I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”
—Psalm 9:1 (NRSV)
Prayer for the Week
Grant us, Lord God, a vision of your world as your love would have it:
a world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor;
a world where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them;
a world where different races and cultures live in harmony and mutual respect;
a world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.
Give us the inspiration and courage to build it, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
