Today’s Reflection
The power of a believing community can do wonders in how we wait in hope. A community helps us discern how God calls us and speaks into our lives, keeping us accountable to spiritual integrity and affirming or challenging our discernment as necessary. It is important to have people with whom we can prayerfully share our spiritual journeys and who can help us name the new realities that God might be birthing in our lives. A community can support us as we name these new realities and learn to live into our expanding or changing sense of identity as flourishing children of God.

This is a wonderful little community we have here. I thank each of you for your insights, comments and prayers. I know I have been inconsistent here as of late – and it speaks to new rhythms which have somehow settled in these past few months. I can’t remember a time when I have been busier. It is very noticeable. Yet, each specific thing seems important in its own way. I find a lot less time for myself…downtime. I feel I have adjusted well. But, priorities when I had a lot more time, now get boxed out. I very much sense not being in a small group …in community as today’s reading addresses. But, gratefully – I do have people who speak into my life, with whom I can have spiritual conversations. I saw my spiritual director this week – it had been 5 weeks…we usually do 3 or 4. I sensed it. But, God companions me, comforts me, provides refuge.
Yesterday was the final day of school for a few weeks – and a good change of pace is ahead. My friend and I head to the beach in a week – with her two boxer dogs. They love the beach and it is fun to have them with us.
My god son’s basketball team is undefeated so far and plays a game tonight in Columbus…where the college football playoff game is – at the same time. The game is being played at a smaller college in Columbus, but quite near the OSU football stadium. We plan on eating outside of town and then going to the game. His team travels to San Diego for a four game tournament the day after Christmas.
Dad, Becky and Don are coming over tomorrow after church to have our Christmas Brunch. It is usually on Christmas Eve. I will be with them Christmas Day prior to us gathering with the whole family in late afternoon. The four of us will celebrate Don’s birthday Friday.
As we inch closer to Christmas, may each one who stops by here take time to ponder the Birth – and the impact His life has made on each of us.
Blessings to all this day- may you take time to embrace the wonders in your life. God willing – my 3 kids will all be under one roof with me today – it is a rare thing to have them all with me- I am blessed and so very grateful. Thank you Lord for my family and for families of all kinds everywhere – bless those who are alone today- may there be peace on earth.
Center Conway UMC provides “community”, Bible book study, fellowship, worship, and seasonal activities that help my faith. I’m grateful for CCUMC. Out with my 91 year old retired pastor friend, Russ, this morning. His first time out of the house in more than two weeks due a badly bruised shin. He has a very nice walker and we did two laps at Lowe’s and had tea or coffee at the Market Basket cafe. The stairs to the church’s cellar have been upgraded and the church front lawn is staked to mark the boundary of snow plowing. All Things Apple and the Cookie Walk are done, Christmas Eve service at 4 pm. Very welcome to read other posts and glad thinhgs are going well, a joyous, blessed 4th Sunday in Advent , ChristmMas Eve, and Christmas to you all and may the New Year be happy and healthy. Safe travels.Thank You, Lord
